About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a secondary school specializing in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons by providing individual and group support to students who require additional help with learning.
  • Behavioural Guidance: Work with students to help manage challenging behaviors, providing clear boundaries, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
  • Emotional Support: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, offering pastoral care and helping them build confidence and resilience.
  • Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement behavior management plans and tailored learning strategies.
  • Fostering Independence: Encourage students to develop self-regulation skills, promoting independence and personal responsibility.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Requirements
  • Experience in SEMH Settings: Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviors is essential.
  • Patience and Resilience: A calm, compassionate, and resilient attitude is critical, as the role will involve managing complex and sometimes unpredictable situations.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, and to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Adaptability and Initiative: A proactive approach, able to adapt to the evolving needs of the students and think on your feet.
  • Commitment to Student Success: A genuine belief in the potential of every young person, regardless of their starting point.
