Resuscitation Officer / Senior Resuscitation Officer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an internal 12 month secondment within the Resuscitation Service for a band 6 or 7 depending on experience. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered health care professional who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

– Supporting colleagues in the development of clinical skills relating to resuscitation. Teaching Resuscitation related skills and practices in a variety of settings to all staff groups.

Promoting the importance of good clinical practice across Barts Health, acting as an education and training resource for staff, offering advice as well as expert practical input into the management of cardiac arrests and medical emergencies.

Acting as a resource and link, assisting with expert advice to all areas of the Trust concerning resuscitation related directives, national initiatives and changes in policies and protocols.

As a Resuscitation Officer/ Senior Resuscitation Officer, teaching forms a large component of the role, including being Course Instructor and Director on Resuscitation Council UK / ALSG regulated courses.

Supporting colleagues in the development of clinical skills relating to Resuscitation.

Supporting the implementation of robust policies and guidelines which will support all aspects of resuscitation practice within Barts Health NHS Trust

Teaching Resuscitation related skills and practices in a variety of settings to all staff groups.

The role also includes having a hospital site responsibility, to lead on projects and management of junior staff. The role includes maintaining clinical skills by attending clinical emergencies; Involvement in clinical audit and organisation of emergency equipment throughout the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Leadership / Managerial

1)In collaboration with the Service lead, SRO and the Resuscitation Committee, the RO will assist with the development and delivery of a strategic resuscitation service and ensure they are implemented and responsive to patients needs across the Trust.

2) To assist the Service lead with the co-ordination and supervision of the resuscitation service working within the post holder’s area of responsibility.

3) Input of data to resuscitation databases - resuscitation outcomes, clinical risks, all training programmes and participant attendance.

4) Provide and circulate data to relevant stakeholders as directed by the RSL.

Education and Training

1) Deliver basic to advanced life support sessions, depending on experience and instructor level, unsupervised following planned schemes of learning, following a period of supervision, in a variety of ways.

2) Assess the competence of staff in performing resuscitation procedures and arrange further training where appropriate.

3) To assist in the maintenance of training records and databases as needed by the service.

4) Ensure that the appropriate and efficient use of supplies is made and exercise economy in the use of consumables.

5) To ensure that the training manikins are cleaned and maintained according to Trust Policy.

6) To actively participate in giving and receiving peer review of teaching skills and abilities as part of on-going professional development.

7) To ensure that all staff are aware of changes in evidence base practice related to resuscitation as disseminated from the Resuscitation Council (UK).

Research and Audit

1) Assist with the implementation of appropriate audit tools and data entry for all resuscitation attempts and Resuscitation Plans (DNACPR) for the purpose of measuring adherence to all resuscitation policies within the Trust.

2) Assist with analysis audit projects and audit reports for the Resuscitation Committee and other relevant stakeholders and assist with developing action plans that sustain a dynamic quality improvement programme.

3) To be involved with the undertaking of research projects as service provision allows.

Clinical Support and Practice

1) As an active member of the cardiac arrest/medical emergency team, provide clinical support and advice as required when attending an emergency event.

2) Maintain high standards of record keeping in accordance with the Trust guidelines and professional registration.

3) Ensure resuscitation team members have access to psychological support and clinical supervision. Assist with the provision of debriefing of staff involved in sensitive situations as appropriate.

4) Provide support and guidance to colleagues in any resuscitation – related decision-making process.

Registered Health Care Professional Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent ALS/APLS/EPALS/NLS instructor/or Instructor Potential

Desirable criteria

ALS/APLS/EPALS/NLS course director GIC Instructor /Director Educated to degree level or above or working towards

Experience

Clinical experience of autonomous practice in an acute care setting with a wide ranging experience in resuscitation Evidence of on-going professional and personal
