The department are looking to appoint a Senior Clinic Fellow positions (at ST3+ level) to work within this busy department. The post will commence 7th August 2024 until 5th August 2025.

The positions would be perfect for anyone developing their skills and building up their portfolio and confidence prior to having a national training number in plastic surgery. The focus will be on supervised trauma provision including running the trauma clinic and operating on the trauma list, treating patients with skin cancers in the plastic surgical treatment centre and taking part in many different aspects of plastic surgical management in the outpatient, theatre and emergency environment including burns.

This post will not participate on the on call rota - Timetable to be confirmed anticipated will be NWD 8am - 5pm Monday to Thursday 8am - 12 noon on Friday.

Main duties of the job

The HB is committed to multi-professional and multi-disciplinary team working and you will be expected to work closely with colleagues both within and outside the HB to achieve this aim.

You will observe the policies and procedures of SBUHB and any other HB in which you conduct clinical activities.

You will be expected to provide diagnosis and treatment for patients occupying accommodation made available under sections 58, 65 and 66 of the NHS Act 1977, in so far as such patients have not made private arrangements for such treatment under section 65(2) of that Act.

Working with medical staff colleagues and the multi-professional team you will have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff. In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues you will also have responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board. You are encouraged to consider how services can be improved and to report any concerns about safety.

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. Job responsibilities

Detailed weekly commitments will be agreed at the beginning of the post and may be negotiated locally depending on training needs. This will include a number of MDTs, outpatient clinics and theatre sessions.

Fellows will function as an integral part of the team (as dictated by skill and experience) liaising with other members of the MDT, clinicians and patients. We would expect fellows to be involved in the majority of patient management discussions at MDT, supported by senior clinicians.

You will actively participate in the training and supervision of junior doctors and medical students through formal and informal teaching and training opportunities.

You will be expected to participate in the management, development and modernisaton of the service and to support colleagues in meeting training obligations.

You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice as laid down by the General Medical Council.

You will be required to participate in the Health Boards risk management process, clinical governance and any other healthcare governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Health Board. Adherence to the Caldicott Principles of information governance is mandatory.

You will be required to maintain a licence to practice through revalidation, to undergo satisfactory annual appraisal using the all Wales online Medical Appraisal Scheme (MARS) and to formulate a Personal Development Plan, in conjunction with the Clinical lead, to identify training and development needs. You will be expected to participate in sufficient personal and professional development to fulfill Royal College and GMC requirements. You will also be required to undergo a job plan review at least annually and to agree and then meet service outcomes.

You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the service and service group planning process through active participation in the clinical services structure.

It will be necessary to undertake duties at other locations within the Health Board. Travelling as necessary between hospitals/clinic will be required to undertake such duties. Travel expenses will be remunerated according to the Health Board policy and procedures for claiming.

You will adhere to all policies which cover radiation exposures as currently outlined in IRMER regulations.

The Health Board is committed to meet its obligations to minimise infection. You will be required to comply with current procedures for the control of infection, including dress-code, to challenge non-compliance by colleagues, and to attend training in infection control provided by the Health Board.
