We are seeking a dedicated and passionate professional to become a vital member of our innovative team specializing in Breast & Lymphoedema Plastic Surgery.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing both general and specialized plastic surgical procedures, particularly focusing on breast and lymphoedema services, which may include advanced techniques such as Lymphovenous Anastomosis (LVA) and lymph node transfers.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will participate in the on-call rota for plastic surgery, with a focus on providing comprehensive care across various facilities. This role is based within a collaborative environment, working alongside a diverse team of 25 plastic and reconstructive surgeons dedicated to delivering exceptional surgical services.

Job Duties
This consultant position will focus on Lymphoedema and breast microsurgery, joining a team of 28 consultants at the Welsh Centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery. The service encompasses all acute hospitals in the region, catering to a broad population base.
Our facilities include low-dependency beds and a dedicated outpatient service, with specialized physiotherapy and occupational therapy support available. The dedicated Plastic Surgery Treatment Centre is equipped for planned day case treatments.
Since 2015, we have offered lymphoedema surgical services, including LVA and lymph node transfer procedures. The successful candidate will be expected to integrate into this specialized service, having undergone advanced training under the mentorship of our senior lymphoedema surgeon.
In addition to lymphoedema surgery, the candidate will contribute to the breast microsurgical service, performing procedures such as DIEP and LAP flap reconstructions. The role also involves participation in the general plastic surgery team, addressing acute trauma cases and managing skin cancer patients.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Current GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- Specialist Registrar status in Burns and Plastic Surgery
- Completion of a fellowship in lymphoedema microsurgery with experience in LVA
- Fellowship in general breast microsurgery with demonstrated skills in flap raising and vessel anastomosis
- Research experience, including completion of an MD/PhD and publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in securing grants for research and clinical trials
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy, Skin Cancer, Breast Surgery, Complex Hand Surgery
Desirable Criteria
- Completion of an Oncoplastic TIG fellowship
- International experience in lymphoedema microsurgery
- Experience in service development and commissioning
