The Swansea Pelvic Oncology Fellowship is endorsed through the Royal College of Surgeons Senior Fellowship scheme to provide peri-CCT in surgery for advanced and recurrent pelvic malignancy. The general surgery department are looking to appoint a Fellow for a fixed term contract for 12 months.

The Swansea pelvic oncology team provides a multidisciplinary approach to advanced pelvic malignancy for primary and recurrent disease. The fellow would be involved in all aspects of management from diagnosis to treatment and follow up. Also there would be obviously experience in research on these patient groups which is ongoing in the department. The volume of surgery has increased markedly over the last few years and referrals are received from all over Wales and as far east as the Midlands.

The trainee will be involved in routine major surgery in pelvic urology, gynaecological oncology - in particular they should become capable of carrying out cystectomy, radical hysterectomy and vulvectomy as well as major colorectal resections and learn some of the reconstructive techniques associated with these procedures. Current SpRs receive training in colorectal surgery. This is a level three unit which offers all aspects of colorectal training.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of South West Wales.
