This is an exciting and rareopportunity to join Barnsley CAMHS as a Senior Advanced Clinical Practitionerand become our lead ADHD nurse.

The role of the senior ACP is to leadand develop our ADHD pathway, building on the improvements that have been madeover recent years in assessment and treatment. You must beconfident and experienced in this area with the ability to work autonomously incomplex situations. You will have a key role in representing Barnsley CAMHS instrategic discussions with SYICB with the ambition to drive improvements forthe Neurodevelopmental Services across South Yorkshire.

Main duties of the job

You willlead our ADHD pathway and Non-Medical Prescribing workforce. You will be an integralpart of the Multi-Disciplinary Team where ADHD diagnosis is considered, andrecommendations made. You must have a good knowledge of ADHD and Neurodiversityand be able to conduct assessments of ADHD. You will be competent inprescribing medications in this arena but will be supported to develop thisskill if necessary. You will be able to make good relationships withprofessionals and families/carers and recognise the importance of multi-agencyworking in complex situations. You will be a forward thinking, innovativepractitioner who has a passion for providing the best care possible for thechildren and young people in Barnsley. The successful candidate will be anautonomous, experienced practitioner who enjoys teaching and working withpractitioners to advance their skills in ADHD and lead our expandingNon-Medical Prescribing Workforce. Job description

Job responsibilities

KEY RESULT AREAS:

The postholder will, as an Advanced Clincial Practitioner (ACP), contribute to the strategic direction for the development of clinical practice within ADHD and across the Trust as required.

Leading on services consolidation as well as expansion in line with service and trust objectives and in partnership with the clinical lead and general manager .

The post holder will take the lead in extending boundaries and creating frameworks for the enhancement of

clinical practice within their speciality.

The post holder will continue to strive towards excellence in clincial care and communicate this excellence to colleagues both within the organisation and externally. Work as an independent non-medical prescriber where permitted/appropriate (or for professional groups currently unable to register as an independant prescriber such as occupational therapists and speech and language therapists completion of a working with medication prescribing module is required) within areas as required and designated, taking responsibility for the clinical assessment of the patient, establishing a diagnosis and the clinical management required in accordance with the Trusts non-medical prescribing policy and protocols.

The post holder will provide:

Expert clinical practice within the service for at least 60% of the post, including clinician led clinics and clinical diagnosis and independent prescribing where permitted/appropriate for ADHD Professional leadership , consultancy and clinical supervision, within the service, to the wider serice, including Primary Care and other agencies. Be the identified clinical supervisor to other advanced clinicians, regarding clinical and prescribing practice Education, training and development of staff, and a range of other agencies, including GPs and other medics in the management/ treatment services for ADHD. Research into various aspects of service provision and service evaluation which involves this service user group. Represent the service and wider clinical led clinics at local ,regional and national forums. The post holder will also actively contribute to the development of NICE and NHS England policy development were appropriate. The post holder will be a key member of the senior clinical and management team. The position carries responsibility for programme development, delivery and integrity within the pathway. To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for the care provided to service users by undertaking the appropriate assessment, diagnosis/formulation and interventions. Work in close collaboration with medical and pharmacy personnel taking a lead clinican role on the development of policies and inform development of non-medical prescribing within the Trust

Care/service/function provision

Lead the systematic development and delivery of the highest quality specialist treatment services

within ADHD in conjunction with the general manager and clinical lead, consultant psychiatrist and psychologists, consistent with the operational policy for the service.

Provide expert advice/consultation and support to a range of stakeholders working across agencies, disciplines and organisational boundaries at local, regional and national levels.

Manage a defined caseload which will incorporate being responsible for specialist assessment, delivery, and the evaluation of their care including ADHD and co-occuring conditions

Provide expert advice in relation to the development of integrated care pathways for ADHD and neurodiversity

Develop robust models of clinical care within service, and redefine clinician roles and develop practice skills within this developing area.

Test and evaluate advanced practice roles; for example independent non medical prescribing/ or working with medication prescribing professional group if currently unable to prescribe (as outlined above).

As a senior clinician within the Trust, make a significant contribution towards the development and implementation of strategies, policies and lead on the implementation of these within area of responsibility.

Take a lead on the development of policy into practice and to ensure clear communication of such policies.

Provide professional advice and guidance to the general manager responsible for the development of the clinician service within ADHDand co-occuring needs .

Contribute to the development of clearly articulated strategic objectives for nursing and other disciplines

relating to service development and an annual action plan designed to meet the goals that clearly dovetails with the strategic objectives of the Care Group.

Develop strategies to empower service users, families and carers that will enable them to play an active role in service planning delivery and developments.

Develop practice in light of empirical research finding and disseminate research findings to local, national and international communities.

Act as a resource to statutory and voluntary sector colleagues to assist in developing best practice in care and treatment services for all patient groups.

Take a lead in the development of a learning environment that will support change and to act as a role model through practice, positive attitude and presentation.

Provide support/education for staff service users, families and carers

Advise on clinical development at a strategic level within the organisation, particularly in relation to services for ADHD and Neurodiversity.

Working as part of a Team :

Make expert evaluations and decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors that have shaped the individual, family or group.

Provide expert clinical advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to service user formulation and intervention plans.

To identify specialist training needs of nurses and practitioners within the service and develop appropriate training plans in conjunction with the senior management team.

Provide strategic advice for the service for the identified care pathways.

Provide clear direction and leadership for practitioners with regard to legal, ethical and moral dimensions of care.

Develop a questioning and change culture within practice one that will enable both professional and service user/client to partake in the development of the delivery of excellent care.

Contribute to the evaluation of the use of resources and have the ability to tap into appropriate systems to access resources.

Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of specialist training for multidisciplinary staff within the wider health economy..

Provide specialist supervision for staff on education programmes

Participate in recruitment and selection of staff where appropriate.

Managing Self :

Be an innovator capable of pioneering new frameworks to support practice. Add to the body of clinical knowledge and be able to demonstrate how this will focus on care delivery for ADHD. Test clinical theories for their contribution to healthcare outcomes

Represent the service at both Trust wide, regional and national meetings.

Contribute towards the development of communication mechanisms with service/user and carer organisations. Initiate the design and delivery of public awareness raising to reduce stigma and social exclusion associated with mental illness, raise awareness of the service, its management and pathways of care.

Take the lead within the clinical area to influence strategic development of clinical research and development into practice at local, regional, national and international levels. Ensure that staff are skilled in undertaking research and have access and opportunity to develop research skills.

Collaborate with external researchers to develop research programmes to enhance service user care and the status of the service. Develop practice in light of empirical research finding and disseminating research findings to local, national communities.

Receive clinical supervision from RC/NC or Medical Consultant etc.

Management Supervision and Support: Financial Responsibility :

Demonstrate significant expertise in clinical issues requiring advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of a range of work procedures and clinical practices.

Lead clinical investigation of complaints and serious untoward incidents, developing action plans. Disseminate information to colleagues on any lessons learned, and monitor progress on the implementation of the action plans.

Actively participate and lead on aspects of the governance and assurance framework.

Lead the development of clinical audit and effectiveness for clinical practice within the service area. Be an expert resource to other colleagues in the development of clinical audit and effectiveness programmes.

Disseminate results of clinical audit and effectiveness to local, national and international communities and conferences.

Monitor speciality medicine budget.

Manage delegated budget for development of ADHD service. (approx. £x000)

Authorised signatory for staff expenses, including agency, bank, time and travel expenses.

Advise the director of nursing, service director and senior managers in relation to the indentifed cohort / pathway .

Have responsibility for a specific work theme, or strategy within the Trust as deemed and agreed with the post holder by the service director/director of nursing in keeping with the nursing strategy and AHP strategy and specialist skills of the post holder.

Ability to undertake advanced clinical practice and examination skills independently that encompasses all aspects of the patients needs. Evidence of developing robust governance system including the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, standards, policies, procedures and guidelines. Evidence of interpreting and synthesising information from a variety of sources and promoting their use in practice. First level Registered Nurse or Clinical Practitioner registered with the appropriate professional body MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Evidence of continuous Professional Development. Current registration as Independent Non- Medical Prescriber/or completion of a working with medication prescribing course and demonstration of competence with medication if professional group unable to prescribe.

Desirable

Evidence in specific training related to ADHD. Teaching, training or mentorship qualification or experience to an equivalent level.

*Extensive experience of working within speciality of neurodiversity at Senior(B7) level or above. *Extensive practice as Independent non-medical prescriber within speciality. Where professional group currently unable to become a non-medical prescriber completion of a working with medication prescribing course is required and demonstration of competence in this field is required. Where profession able to prescribe. *Experience of working therapeutically within ADHD and Neurodiversity. *Substantial experience in managerial / nursing leadership roles. *Experience of leading service development changes. * Developed awareness of the evolving healthcare agenda and the implications for nursing/clinical practice. *Experience of research and developing theory into practice. *Evidence of facilitating quality improvement into practice. *Developed knowledge of clinical governance issues.
