UHBW Division of Medicine Clinical Manager for Quality and Patient Safety

Job share - 15 hours per week ~ Fixed term for 1 year

A unique job share opportunity has arisen for a dynamic clinical professional to join the Quality and Patient Safety Team responsible for managing the patient safety, quality and patient experience in care agenda within the Division of Medicine. We would consider someone non clinical with extensive NHS patient safety experience. The Division consists of a number of elective outpatient services as well as non-elective services including the emergency department and inpatient beds. This Quality role will be key to supporting the specialty teams to manage risk, patient safety and drive forward clinical effectiveness.

The role requires oversight and management, in line with developing national agendas PSIRF, LFPSE, Duty of Candour, Risk Registers, patient safety alerts and patient experience in care (complaints/ compliments).

You will have joint line management responsibility for the divisional patient safety team and will be expected to work closely with clinical teams to pro-actively identify and systematically address gaps in the division's patient safety outcomes. The patient safety team directly reports to the division, whilst working closely with the Trust Patient Safety Insight team.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing expert advice, guidance, training and coaching across the division to ensure that the minimising of risk meets statutory and best practice requirements and delivers high quality patient care.

You will have evidence of recent study at Masters level or equivalent qualification, an extensive governance experience within a complex healthcare setting. You will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, with excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills, a professional manner which instils confidence and have excellent written and analytical skills.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

Masters level or equivalent qualification or experience Accreditation with clinical professional body

Desirable

Diploma or equivalent in Risk management Recognised teaching qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

Substantive experience at NHS Senior level or above, or equivalent, with experience of staff and budget management Experience and knowledge of using a model of self-assessment of performance against defined internal/external standards including CQC Regulations Experience of working with a range of staff within the NHS including executives to manage risk events Knowledge of Risk Management in acute/tertiary setting including experience of managing incident reporting systems ( Datix) Experience of working with clinical teams to support improvement in patient safety. ( Experience of investigating complex clinical incidents/issues/risks Experience of designing and delivering education and training programmes to all grades of staff Knowledge of Clinical Governance and External Accreditation Processes
