Student Support Officer Needed in Newport

About the role:

Teaching Personnel is proud to be recruiting a Student Support Officer for one of our partnership schools in Newport.   This is a full time position, in which you will work closely with the Progress Leaders and Senior Leadership Team to develop systems to support the pastoral care of students.

The successful candidate will work within the Student Support Centre to implement the school's behaviour management strategy. They will promote positive behaviour, assist the Student Support Centre, coordinate appropriate work, and provide a calm environment for students with challenging behaviour. This educator must be confident, with strong behaviour management skills, while also being approachable and able to bridge the gap between pupils and teaching staff.

Details:

Location: Newport

Start date: 21st October 2024

Salary: £110–£120 per day

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00

Contract: Initally until August 2025, with the opportunity to join the school permanently if successful in the position 

Key responsibilities:

  • Work one-on-one with disruptive students removed from mainstream classes in the Student Support Centre
  • Provide a link between school and home to support improved parental engagement
  • Receive and supervise pupils excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable exploring learning, behaviour or emotional issues.
  • Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements with students and provide support for distressed students
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to progress, achievement, behaviour, attendance etc.
  • Demonstrate initiative and work both independently and as a team member

  • Participate in the school's performance management process

Job requirements:

  • Enhanced Child Only DBS Certificate (we can help you obtain this)
  • Registration with the EWC (Education Workforce Council)
  • Two professional references covering the past 24 months
  • Strong behaviour management and conflict de-escalation skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures and principles
