Job summary

The medical wards at UHCW NHS Trust provide acute care for our community with a diverse variety of needs including renal, endocrinology, respiratory, cardiology, infectious diseases, long term conditions and oncology.

As an experienced clinician do you have an interest in one of these areas?

Is frailty or re-conditioning a passion you want to explore and develop?

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with all-round knowledge and skills to meet our diverse caseload, and a passion to develop the therapy service within their area of clinical interest.

As a Band 6 into a new role, you will be supernumerary for 2 weeks. This will allow you to get to know the team, service and Trust and highlight any training needs.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Team covers the following specialities (not exhaustive)

Oncology and Haemtology Renal Cardiology Infectious Diseases Respiratory Endocrinology To manage a caseload of patients with varying diagnosis and / or complex needs, using evidence-based practice with client centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions To support the learning and development of students and staff To develop enhanced clinical skills and knowledge in an area of interest linked with patient cohorts ( cognition, specific clinical condition, prehabilitation / acute rehabilitation) To participate in 7-day working patterns as required

Job description

Job responsibilities

Be professional, legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of own work and activities, to manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload. Carry a clinical caseload of highly complex patients, provide advanced therapeutic assessment & evaluation, and provide detailed written treatment plans with patient centered goals working within ward / department areas. Work as an autonomous practitioner and member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programs, taking on the role of care coordinator and/ or vocational lead where relevant. Carry out treatment, using a broad variety of modalities and clinical reasoning to allow selection of the most appropriate technique evaluating, modifying, and recording all interventions and outcomes & adapting them to meet the needs of the patient. Use highly developed manual treatment skills requiring coordination, sensation & dexterity. Work in accordance with RCOT & HCPC rules of professional conduct and within local care pathways, policies and standards. Establish and maintain effective communication networks with patients, carers, MDT, other workers and agencies across health, social care and the private sector locally and regionally. Contribute to the Trust and Group clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda, including the setting and monitoring of practice standards, clinical risks Take the lead for information management within area of responsibility to ensure high quality up to date written and electronic (where available) records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards & produce in a timely manner.
