Job summary

UHCW is looking for Occupational Therapists to join our Acute Stroke Therapy Team.

The role provides opportunities to utilise and develop your skills and knowledge in assessing and designing interventions to manage altered cognition, assessing and supporting patient's psychological well-being, assessing and addressing changes in physical abilities, and working with patients to enable timely discharges from the Acute setting.

The role is part of a wider MDT which includes Physios, Nurses, Neuro-Psychology, and Dietitians, to name a few, and is based on our stroke wards which include hyper-acute and acute beds. The Therapy Team includes Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapist who will support with your clinical and professional development.

We are at the heart of the stroke centralisation with patients starting their stroke journey with us. We therefore work closely with our partners across the pathway to promote seamless transitions and holistic care. The pathway provides many opportunities for service development projects and MDT working.

As a Band 6 into a new role, you will be supernumerary for 2 weeks. This will allow you to get to know the team, service and Trust and highlight any training needs.

Main duties of the job

To provide the best care, we offer a 7 day service but don't worry, we know to be at your best you need downtime and time to recharge - but you should be prepared to work weekends on a rolling basis too.

To manage a caseload of patients with varying diagnosis and / or complex needs, using evidence-based practice with client centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions To support the learning and development of students and staff To participate in 7-day working patterns as required

Job responsibilities

Be professional, legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of own work and activities, to manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload. Carry a clinical caseload of highly complex patients, provide advanced therapeutic assessment & evaluation, and provide detailed written treatment plans with patient centered goals working within ward / department areas. Work as an autonomous practitioner and member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to team discussions and influencing decisions about patient care programs, taking on the role of care coordinator and/ or vocational lead where relevant. Carry out treatment, using a broad variety of modalities and clinical reasoning to allow selection of the most appropriate technique evaluating, modifying, and recording all interventions and outcomes & adapting them to meet the needs of the patient. Use highly developed manual treatment skills requiring coordination, sensation & dexterity. Work in accordance with RCOT & HCPC rules of professional conduct and within local care pathways, policies and standards. Establish and maintain effective communication networks with patients, carers, MDT, other workers and agencies across health, social care and the private sector locally and regionally. Contribute to the Trust and Group clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda, including the setting and monitoring of practice standards, clinical risks, CAE & Health & Safety. Take the lead for information management within area of responsibility to ensure high quality up to date written and electronic (where available) records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards & produce in a timely manner.
