About the role


We are currently recruiting a Test Development Engineer to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Production Engineering Team.

QTS UK is one of the world’s leading designers and manufacturers of Aerial Target Systems. The company has grown rapidly in recent years and has ambitious plans for the future.

The Test Development Engineer position is a unique opportunity to work on leading projects within the aerospace industry (Aerial Target / UAS platforms) with exposure to cutting-edge aerospace technology.

The Test Development Engineer role will report directly to the Engineering Support Manager.

What will I be doing?

Based at our site in Ashford, Kent you will define and implement the way we test and ensure products meet performance specifications, using NI Labview, Teststand and test fixtures you design.

You will provide technical support to the purchasing and production team and work with the design engineering teams to provide test expertise through design reviews and design-for-manufacture discussions.

Duties will include:

Defining the way products should be tested and implementing that test strategy. Liaising & guiding R&D to ensure new products are designed in a way that is optimum for testing. Designing ATE test fixtures and supervising their assembly. Developing ATE test programs and commissioning them, along with the fixtures Developing standalone test methods & designing and implementing the necessary hardware and software solutions for these methods. Documenting to company standards all test procedures for factory use. Providing training and support to the factory test supervisors. Manage change to product testing in a live environment.

What do I need?

You will be degree qualified in a relevant field or have equivalent experience and qualifications and have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a test development environment.

We also ask that you have the following key capabilities/knowledge:

Radio frequency test and measurement experience. Ability to read and interpret electronics schematic drawings. Ability to read and interpret electronic component data sheets. An understanding of EMC issues and solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent IT skills with experience of standard Microsoft Office apps with Office 365 suite an advantage. A helpful can-do attitude with a focus on delivering for customers. PCB design, including schematic capture, layout and output to manufacture. LEAN manufacturing experience desirable.
