Main duties of the job
To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, infection control and patient education.

Job description
Job responsibilities
a.Undertakenew patient health checks
b.Supportthe practice nurse with health promotion programmes
c.Carryout baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature,pulse rate, recording findings accurately

f.Supportthe practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
g.Carryout BMI checks as directed
h.Actas a chaperone as required
i.Whentrained, undertake venepuncture
j.Whentrained, administer flu vaccinations
k.Whentrained, administer B12 injections, working under a PSD
l.Whentrained, complete INR tests to include using INR star
m.Procuringstock supplies, ordering at best price and rotating all stock received
n.Whentrained, complete pre-screening checks for diabetic patients
o.Whentrained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse
p.Carryout ECGs as requested
q.Monitoring/recallingof DMARD patients
r.Ensurespecimens are actioned/dealt with appropriately and ready for onwardtransportation
s.Maintainingfridge temperature and downloading accurately as per practice policy
t.Providesupport during minor operations as required
u.Ensureall clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
v.Ensurefridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
w.Thechecking/calibrating of equipment to include Urinalysis, BM and INR machines
x.Ensureclinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced inaccordance with the practice IPC policy
y.Deliveropportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Attend practice and external meetings asrequested
Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) maybe requested to:
a. Participate in practiceaudit as directed by the audit lead
b. Participate in localinitiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
c. Support and participatein shared learning within the practice
d. Complete opening andclosing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
