In response to the all Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) report “No One’s Listening” Barts Health will pilot an urgent emergency care bypass model. We are seeking to appoint an experienced, proactive, dynamic, motivated Sickle Cell specialist nurse who has management experience and an interest in service development.

The successful applicant will be providing nursing leadership within a new service and will work alongside the emergency department and the haemoglinopathy service. The unit will provide triage, assessment, and care delivery to Sickle Cell patients who present to the Royal London Hospital Emergency Department. As such the role requires a high level of enthusiasm, drive, organisation and a willingness to learn.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the haemoglobinopathies teams across Barts Health NHS Trust the post holder will be responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of a high quality sickle cell service across the Trust.

Barts Health NHS Trust has been designated as a Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre for sickle cell disease, thalassaemia and other rare inherited anaemias. The Royal London Hospital is the host site within the Trust and this post, based at the Royal London provides an exciting opportunity to join the team.

The postholder will be an experienced nurse leader and responsible for triaging sickle cell patients presenting to the Royal London. Coordinating the most appropriate location for their care across ambulatory, inpatient, emergency and day care settings.

Essential criteria

First level Registered nurse or midwife (with the NMC) Relevant educational/ training qualification/certificate/experience Mentorship Course

Desirable criteria

Qualified non-medical prescriber Physical assessment / triage accreditation BSc or Masters level education or working towards it

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience at senior band 6 or above working within the area of specialty Evidence of clinical leadership of patient clinical care and of collaborative multidisciplinary team working Experience of acute sickle cell crisis pain management

Desirable criteria

Evidence of management of change, leadership and development of services
