Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.

Key Duties
  • Care for patients with chronic conditions and pursue a greater understanding of their needs.
  • Administer daily, routine blood transfusions, automated exchange transfusions, iron infusions, venesections, and other treatments prescribed by specialist Consultants to regular day attenders.
  • Manage the care of patients attending the haematology Day Unit in painful crisis or who are acutely unwell, and liaise with acute and emergency services.
  • Understand the need for vigilance and adherence to Trust and national policies regarding blood products, Haemoglobinopathies, and other clinical haematology conditions.
  • Provide a safe level of care for all patients seen in the clinical haematology services at North Middlesex University Hospital.
  • Improve and develop the service delivery on the unit and participate in audits and research to improve care and service on the Haematology Day Unit.
Person SpecificationEducation and Qualifications
  • First-level Registered nurse or midwife (with the NMC).
  • Relevant educational/training qualification/certificate/experience.
  • Qualified non-medical prescriber.
  • Advanced organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of development & meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate an ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills with the clinical aspects of the job.
Experience
  • Experience at Band 6 or above in a related specialty.
Personal Qualities
  • Approachable and open.
  • Management skills including experience of team leadership and team building initiatives.
