Fareham, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Specialist Services to appoint a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist into the Hampshire Multiagency Personality Service (HMAPS). We are a specialised community service jointly commissioned between NHS England (NHSE) and Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). The service comprises of the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway and Intensive Interventions and Risk Management (IIRMS) service lines.

The HMAPS team is a multidisciplinary team providing psychological formulation, consultation, and training to the National Probation Service within Hampshire, to support the probation staff with formulation-based psychological ways of working with people under probation supervision who have personality difficulties linked to their offending behaviour. The service provides consultation to NHS teams working with individuals likely to have personality disorder / identified personality difficulties and are at high risk of harm to others/offending in a range of NHS community settings. Under the IIRMS service, psychological case management, psychoeducational interventions and outreach is provided to a caseload of high-risk offenders in a range of NHS and non-NHS settings (, probation offices, Approved Premises, and community hub spaces) across Hampshire.

We are looking for either an experienced Clinical/Forensic Psychologist (Band 8a) or someone looking for a development opportunity as part of a preceptorship (Band 7 developing into Band 8a).

Main duties of the job

The role of the Applied Psychologist in the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Multiagency Personality Service (HMAPS) is to be part of a specialist team who provide consultation, formulation, and intervention services in relation to people on probation who have personality difficulties and whose personality traits are associated with their offending and result in challenges managing them. Personality difficulties, on the most part, result from the experience of early trauma.

This is a psychologically-informed and psychologically-led joint venture between the NHS and probation. The service provides consultation to probation officers, and assessment, formulation and intervention to a caseload of high-risk people under probation who have offended. Intervention aims to support people under probation supervision in the community through their licence period. The aim is to ensure that intervention and management of people with personality difficulties who have offended is psychologically- and trauma-informed through both training and supervision, joint working with the probation officer, and individual work with the person who has committed an offence.

The service is based in the offices above Ravenswood House Medium Secure Unit (near Fareham). Work is community-based and will be delivered in a range of NHS and non-NHS (for example Probation offices and approved premises/probation hostels) premises across Hampshire but primarily in Southampton, Portsmouth and Basingstoke.
