The opportunity

This role is an excellent opportunity to work across a broad range of early years, primary and secondary educational materials published by Bloomsbury Education, including illustrated historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry, home learning books, teacher resources and professional development titles. Reporting to the Senior Commissioning Editor, the Editor is responsible for independently managing individual book projects from commission to publication, as well as assisting and supporting the commissioning team and senior editors as required.

The role

Working with the commissioning team and senior editors to project manage titles across a broad range of educational products, from teaching resources and professional development books to children’s fiction, non-fiction and poetry Guiding individual titles through the editorial process, from commission to publication, working with authors to ensure timely delivery of manuscripts and liaising with production staff to maintain publishing schedules and data in Biblio (publishing database) Managing the editorial budget for individual titles to ensure profitability Organising and assisting with the writing of AIs (advance information sheets), catalogue copy and book fair materials Development editing and copyediting new manuscripts independently, as well as alongside project editor/commissioning editor Writing cover and artwork briefs and compiling back cover copy Proofreading and liaising with authors at proof stage, collating comments and corrections, feeding back to production and then checking off changes on revised proofs Liaising with external and internal designers on page layouts, covers and artwork briefs, including storyboarding and illustrator selection Presenting titles to sales and marketing teams at launch and review meetings Representing the education list at sales conferences and events, as required

Knowledge, skills and experience  

Organised, confident and a good communicator Excellent knowledge of the English language, high standards of accuracy and a keen eye for detail Strong organisational skills and a rigorous, self-motivated approach to briefing, meeting deadlines and managing schedules and budgets Able to prioritise and manage time effectively Awareness of print procedures and printing needs Awareness of cost limitations and profitability of a project Demonstrable experience of education publishing essential

Additional information

The role is a full-time permanent position

Salary Pay Point: £32,000

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Monday and Tuesday.
