We are looking for a Collections Information Officer to join our team of Archivists, Librarians and Collections Information Officers on a full-time, permanent basis.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be working as part of the Collections Information team which is part of the Collections & Digital department at Wellcome Collection, and your role will be managed by the Collections Information Lead (Cataloguing).
What will I be doing?
The Collections Information team creates and maintains a diverse range of descriptive, bibliographic and management information about Wellcome’s collections. We want to maximise access and use of our collections by taking an audience-focused approach whenever we create collections information.
As a Collections Information Officer you will be:
Joining a multidisciplinary team that undertakes a mix of cataloguing, inventory, sensitivity review and metadata enhancement, working in partnership to ensure that access to the collections is always lawful, ethical, and responsible.
Carrying out inventory checking across Wellcome’s collections; auditing and comparing physical items against catalogue records, where available, or creating minimal viable records where necessary.
Identifying, recording, and helping to resolve anomalies or missing data, working across a range of collections management databases e.g. Sierra, CALM, Quickbase.
Assisting with the appraisal, sorting, arrangement, and cataloguing of collections across a range of formats, both analogue and digital.
Handling personal and other sensitive data in accordance with UK Data Protection legislation and Wellcome Collection policy and procedures, carrying out reviews of collections material as required.
Contributing to the delivery of a high-quality public service by undertaking enquiry work via email and supervising appropriate library service points, including occasional evenings and weekends
Is this job for me?
You will have experience of contributing to the cataloguing, classification, appraisal, sorting and arrangement of collections, working across a wide range of genres and formats, both analogue and digital, and ensuring metadata quality in accordance with Wellcome Collection policy and procedures and relevant national and international standards
We are looking for somebody who has:
Experience of collections documentation, cataloguing, listing, or indexing work, preferably in an archive, library, or museum setting.
Experience of handling a wide range of collections material, working flexibly across a range of analogue and digital formats such as archives, printed resources, visual material, and audio-visual material.
Experience of collections sensitivity review, with good awareness of the UK legislative frameworks relating to collections information and access (including Data Protection and Copyright).
A strong ethos of working in partnership with your teammates and colleagues to meet the team’s objectives.
An ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritise workload.
The ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, working in partnership across departments.

Our Hybrid Way of Working

We are currently working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from our Euston Road offices (as part of our hybrid Ways of Working) with the remaining 3 days working either remotely or in the office.
From 1st September 2024 we will move to 3 days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with the remaining 2 days working either remotely or in the office.
