Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to welcome to our team an Assistant Psychologist with a clear passion for working with children, young people and families in physical health settings.

The Paediatric Psychology Service provides specialist psychological intervention within a range of medical teams across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and works closely with the local community children's nursing service. You will join a well-established and growing service, working in a supportive and cohesive team of qualified Clinical Psychologists, to support and enhance the delivery of high quality psychological healthcare.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reflective and creative Assistant Psychologist with experience of working with children and young people and demonstrable dedication to improving health outcomes for young people with physical health conditions.

Main duties of the job

This Assistant Psychologist role involves supporting and enhancing psychology input across all areas of the service.

The post holder will have opportunity to contribute to: direct clinical work under the supervision of qualified Clinical Psychologists across a range of medical teams and services; psychological assessment and intervention; individual and group interventions with children and families; analysing and reporting on outcome measurement data; patient engagement activities; production of clinical/teaching/training materials; audit and service evaluation projects; developing the use of digital technology.

Training and qualifications

Essential

Accredited honours degree in psychology Evidence of post graduate professional development relevant to child psychology Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

Knowledge and skills

Essential

Skills in creatively using a variety of computer software packages A sound knowledge of developmental psychology. High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.

Experience

Essential

Experience working with children and families Experience producing clinical materials/resources Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties and/or disabilities.
