Main duties of the job

Be competent in the use of all relevant Trust information technology ( IT) systems including the use of electronic patient records, (EPR), email and associated professional media ensuring that data is entered in an accurate and timely fashion, in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.

Engage in and promote a paper light approach to information management.

Maintain the use of email and other modes of communication in order to keep abreast of information disseminated across the Trust.

Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of Accountability, Responsibility and Duty of Care and work towards the provision of support and education for less experienced and non-registered staff on the implications for practice.

Management and leadership Adhere to NMC Code of Conduct maintaining patient confidentiality at all times

Promote effective interpersonal relationships with all members of the multi-professional team thereby ensuring a good team spirit and collaborative and person centred working practices.

Be involved in developing standards of care, practice guidelines and where appropriate Care Pathways for the colorectal patient/client group.

Be proactive in undertaking specific responsibilities as delegated by the senior specialist nurses.

Contribute to the development and delivery of nurse led initiatives for the benefit of colorectal patients, in conjunction with medical and nursing/AHP colleagues.

Demonstrate and share clinical practice developments to provide evidence based care and contribute o the service improvement in accordance with local policy initiatives.

Contribute appropriately to clinical governance activities that relate to own area of practice and patient/client group.

Demonstrate knowledge of budgetary restrictions and their implications.

Education Be actively involved in the development, delivery and support of departmental education programmes. Maintain, advance and develop personal theoretical knowledge, high standards of clinical competence and professional development through self education and attendance at relevant courses of study. Create an environment that support and encourages personal and professional growth within the nursing team. Contribute to the development of specialist nursing knowledge and skills to enhance and extend the practice of other nurses and health care professionals within the service. Identify and address the educational needs of patients, families, carers and staff involved in the delivery of this service. Provide specialist nursing support, information and education for patients, families and carers who use the service. Undertake all relevant Statutory and Mandatory (SM) training using the Trust E-Learning packages and study opportunities.

Undertake the responsibilities of a mentor participating in induction and orientation programmes, guiding practice, assessing competence, enabling and supporting learning

Improving Quality and Developing Practice

Comply with post registration education and practice (Prep) requirements for NMC Revalidation or equivalent, identifying own learning needs and ensuring own professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practice developments.

Education, training and qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register depending on area of practice) or National Certification in area of Practice.
