Job summary The colorectal team are looking for a trainee band 6 or experienced band 7 nurse to join their highly regarded, innovative Pelvic Floor Team.Contacting the department for an informal visit or initial conversation is essential when applying as this is a specialised role that will require role specific training.Trainee Specialist Nurse applicants would be working towards becoming a Senior Specialist Nurse in this developmental role and the key result areas outlined in the Band 7 job description.
The role is supervised and clearly linked to competencies that require completion within a pre-arranged and designated time frame.
The focus will be on developing autonomous practice.
Demonstrated proficiency and successful completion of Accredited Scientific Practice (ASP) training programme will advance this role form Band 6 as a Trainee Senior Specialist Nurse to a Band 7 Senior Specialist Nurse.This role will have a specific focus on supporting patients with complex pelvic floor issues.
The role will also incorporate diagnostic testing of the ano-rectum.

Job description Job responsibilities The Specialist Practitioner will contribute to the care of a patient group by leading on defined aspects of care, following a period of training.
Accept patient referrals to agreed criteria and be identified as the key worker for an agreed patient/client caseload.
Ability to perform a variety of pelvic floor centred therapeutics, which include but are not exclusive to pelvic floor retraining, rectal irrigation and percutaneous sacral nerve evaluation.
Organisation of the Percutaneous Nerve Evaluation and Permanent Sacral Nerve Stimulation lists in Radiology intervention.
Co-ordinating the Pelvic Floor Multi-disciplinary Team meeting.
To support the colorectal inpatient service with complex patient care as requested.
Ability to perform high resolution anorectal manometry and endoanal ultrasound.
Provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.
Practice clinically in agreed care settings according to approved protocols or guidance Clinical Practice: Be a defined point of contact for patients/carers for defined episodes/pathways of care and provide clinical care, specialist clinical advice and psychological support.
Demonstrate and promote a patient and family centred style of clinical practice.
Be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, demonstrating a collaborative approach through effective communication and decision making between the multi-professional team, patients and significant others.
Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their clinical decision making to actively monitor diagnostic investigations, therapeutic procedures and advise on lifestyle management Work collaboratively and in partnership with other health care professionals, offering advice to colleagues.
Accurately document and report to other members of the multidisciplinary team information regarding the care given to patients, communicating changes as they occur.
Identify and discuss patient needs with the team, patients, carers and the multi- disciplinary team.

Assess health and psychological needs of individual patients and provide care to meet these needs, through a process of shared decision making.
Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
Professional Practice Ensure clinical practice is evidence based or peer reviewed best practice Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide person centred, evidence based clinical care.
Lead in colorectal nursing as agreed, making recommendations, coordinating projects and developing practice guidelines and policies based upon robust evidence gained from risk assessment, audit and literature review.
Be able to plan own workload and those of others as required.
As negotiated with the multidisciplinary team, set and maintain standards of practice, conduct and decision making.
Be competent in the use of all relevant Trust information technology ( IT) systems including the use of electronic patient records, (EPR), email and associated professional media ensuring that data is entered in an accurate and timely fashion, in accordance with Trust policy and procedure.
Engage in and promote a paper light approach to information management.
Maintain the use of email and other modes of communication in order to keep abreast of information disseminated across the Trust.
Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of Accountability, Responsibility and Duty of Care and work towards the provision of support and education for less experienced and non-registered staff on the implications for practice.
Management and leadership Adhere to NMC Code of Conduct, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times Promote effective interpersonal relationships with all members of the multi-professional team thereby ensuring a good team spirit and collaborative and person centred working practices.
Be involved in developing standards of care, practice guidelines and where appropriate Care Pathways for the colorectal patient/client group.
Be proactive in undertaking specific responsibilities as delegated by the Senior Specialist Nurses and Principal Clinical Scientist.
Demonstrate and share clinical practice developments to provide evidence based care and contribute of the service improvement in accordance with local policy initiatives.
Contribute appropriately to clinical governance activities that relate to own area of practice and patient/client group.
Demonstrate knowledge of budgetary restrictions and their implications.
Ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act regulations 2010 by adhering to the Care Quality Commission standards at all times raising concerns to the Lead Specialist Nurse or an appropriate senior person.
