Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rheumatology Specialist Nurse to join our team at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

About the Role:

  • As a Rheumatology Specialist Nurse, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical care and specialist advice to patients with a wide range of rheumatological conditions.
  • You will work independently alongside the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality specialist nurse-led clinics.
  • Deciding on and carrying out treatment, which may include prescribing medicines within your scope of practice, is also a key aspect of this role.

Main Duties:

  1. Develop and provide comprehensive clinical care, specialist advice and support to patients with a vast range of rheumatological conditions.
  2. Work as an independent practitioner alongside the multidisciplinary team and deliver high-quality specialist nurse-led clinics.
  3. Decide on and carry out treatment, which may include the prescribing of medicines within their scope of practice.
  4. Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed.
  5. Provide specialist support and advice to patients through the running of the Rheumatology advice line.
  6. Build strong professional relationships with counterparts within the rheumatology unit and consultant team.
  7. Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement projects within rheumatology.
  8. Meet professional and local standards within musculoskeletal service in relation to role.
  9. Be flexible within the service to ensure appropriate specialist cover.
  10. Manage unpredictable work patterns in general rheumatology, specialist clinics, and the Rheumatology Day Unit (RDU).

Person Specification:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of working across clinical boundaries
  • Computer literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience in Rheumatology
  • Advanced History Taking module (Level 7)
  • Independent and Supplementary Prescribing module (Level 7)
