The Palliative Care service at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is committed to delivering specialist palliative care and advice to the population of Oxfordshire and South Northants, supported by Sobell House Hospice and Katharine House Hospice charities.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic Community Palliative Care Team. This role involves providing end of life, symptom management, and communication skills training and teaching to all levels of staff.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated healthcare professional to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously within a wider healthcare team and as a lone practitioner, demonstrating strong leadership qualities and excellent communication skills.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Decide on and carry out treatment, which may include advice on the prescribing and de-prescribing of medicines, or referring patients to an appropriate specialist.
  • Prescribe for the initiation and titration of medication for symptom relief where appropriately qualified and registered with the NMC.
  • Assess individuals, families, and populations holistically using a range of different methods, including physical assessment and advanced history taking skills and other specialist health needs assessments.
  • Ensure the provision of continuity of care.
  • Assess and evaluate, with patients and/or carers, the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a graduate-level qualification with 1st-level registration, post-registration qualification or equivalent experience, and experience teaching and assessing in clinical practice.

Additionally, you should possess demonstrable expertise in specialist palliative care nursing, ability to discuss and demonstrate evidence-based practice, previous management experience, and knowledge and experience of change management.

Salary: £43,041 - £57,191 per annum (dependent on experience)
