Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity within this role to be the operational lead, with the midwifery and nursing teams within your portfolio and influence and deliver change. You will ensure the provision of safe, effective, and evidence-based care for the birthing people within our catchment areas and that staff and service users are safe, cared for, and listened to. You will provide visible and compassionate leadership.

We would like to invite a senior midwife with demonstrable skills and knowledge of the current maternity services and extensive operational experience of leading maternity services to apply for this exciting opportunity at the James Paget University Hospital.

The post holder will support the Divisional Operations Director (DOD) of Surgery and Women's & Children's Services in developing and delivering a strategic approach to midwifery that meets the needs of the local population with a specific focus on the deprivation, diversity and inclusion agenda.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the DOD in the professional leadership, development and management of midwifery and support teams to facilitate the delivery of excellent midwifery and nursing practice that is evidence based and measurable. The post holder will be responsible for the management and quality of patient care delivered in respect of choice and personalisation.

You will be a true advocate of the development of service and are required to both drive and promote continuous improvement. You will work collaboratively to:

Lead the ongoing development of services to ensure a sustainable service in terms of workforce planning to attain provision of the right staff, and access to care for our service users. Be accountable for the delivery and monitoring of the Three-Year Delivery Plan for Maternity. Help develop the Equity and Equality Strategy within the Maternity Strategy Ensure implementation of the local, regional and national initiatives in a timely and responsive manner Ensure compliance to other national drivers, standards, and regulations Ockenden, Care Quality Commission (CQC) To see continuous improvement year on year.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

Registered Midwife Masters Qualification (working towards) or equivalent level of academic achievement Management training or evidence of equivalent competence Professional training/learning which demonstrates highly developed professional knowledge Educational/Mentorship qualification

Extensive leadership and managerial experience with evidence of achievement acquired through at least 3 years' experience at a senior level Broad range of clinical midwifery experience acquired through significant practice Experience of staff management, able to persuade and influence and handle conflict Strong evidence of service development and successful change management Experience of risk management and quality assurance Management of a large and diverse team Public speaking Research awareness skills Leading cross boundary projects Experience of financial and budgetary management Clinically sound experience and knowledge Knowledge of risk management strategies. Knowledge of relevant speciality service provision A sound understanding of the NHS, current legislation and national strategy Knowledge of the key regulations, outcomes and assessment methods used by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in judgement of healthcare organisations Knowledge of NMC rules governing practice An understanding of the complexity of service delivery A sound understanding of the professional educating system and processes A working knowledge of workforce planning and development Understanding of the need of confidentiality awareness at all times Thorough knowledge of safeguarding and national issues
