The UHNM is seeking to recruit an experience midwife to join our leadership team.

This is an Inpatient Midwifery Matron post with the hospital and will focus on the ward areas including the low risk Midwifery Birth Unit (MBC) and the Induction Suite (Blossom Suite).

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the improvement process and lead transformational change.

In the first instance this is a 12 month position and we welcome applicants interested in a secondment position.

The Inpatient Midwifery Matron is responsible for the operational management for the inpatient areas within Maternity Unit of the Royal Stoke Hospital.
It is anticipated that this post will include management of the ward areas, the Blossom Suite and the Midwife Birth Centre. The Matron will be responsible for the overall management of the patient flow within these areas, liaising closely with the other Matrons and the wider management team.

They will provide senior leadership to the midwifery and nursing workforce within the directorate(s) to deliver frontline professional and operational priorities and manage the team and departmental Midwife Managers/ Midwifery Sisters and Specialist Nurses/Midwives. They will support the Head of Midwifery/Directorate Nurse, Clinical Directors and as part of the Directorate management team develop, implement, and monitor quality and business plans for the directorates. They will facilitate staff and team development and ensure effective communication systems operate within the Directorates.

Maternity Matrons are expected to work for the clinical and business success of their directorates and to contribute to the corporate success of the Trust. This will require innovation and may include participation in the development of corporate policies and strategic plans and initiating changes in line with Trust Management Team decisions to local services.

The post-holder will also promote professionalism amongst midwives and nurses and will undertake clinical work to maintain their professional competence, authority and credibility.

The Maternity Matron will ensure that effective and robust communication systems are in place for patients, visitors and staff, and will actively promote a culture of health education and ill-health prevention.
