Job summary

CountyDurham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to appoint anexceptional Executive Director of Nursing who has the energy and passion tomake a sustainable and lasting difference in delivering safe, compassionate andjoined up care to our population and those we care for.

Main duties of the job

The Executive Director of Nursing is a critical role thatwill embed clinical leadership across CDDFT, to develop a culture that focuseson patient safety, learning, improvement and innovation. As a member of theTrust Board and executive team, you will share accountability for the overalldelivery of performance and financial sustainability, and will role model ourvalues, supporting positive and mutually respectful relationships at all levelsin the organisation, acting with kindness and championing inclusion at alltimes.

The post holder will also be the Director ofInfection Prevention and Control as well as being the executive lead forsafeguarding. They will lead on thedevelopment of the nursing, midwifery and allied health professional workforceto ensure safe and effective staffing of services. They will be the guardian of nursingleadership and professional standards, taking responsibility for the revalidationof nurses and midwives.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Experience

Essential

A proven track record of nursing, midwifery leadership at senior level, underpinned by an understanding of the NHS and its wider relationships. High level of managerial competency with the ability to lead and manage change in a complex and dynamic environment. Evidence of significant experience in leading and influencing professional groups to secure cross-system change. Evidence of significant experience in building effective networks across health and social care and experience of leading improvement programmes. Experience in establishing a clear strategic vision and direction, and translating this into successful outcomes for staff and patients. Experience of development of models of care to support people to remain healthy and well and to support care in a non-hospital setting. Experience of improving patient safety and creating a culture of learning and improvement. Experience of supporting nurses, midwives and allied health professional concerns about conduct or capability. Demonstrable experience and commitment to inclusion. Knowledge of NHS strategy and policy and its impact at system and organisational level. Strong financial awareness and business acumen drawn from experience of leading operations in multi-million-pound environments. Knowledge and experience of the requirement of, as well as working collaboratively with, regulatory bodies including the Royal College of Nursing, the Health and Care Professions Council, NHS England and the Care Quality Commission.

Desirable

Senior leadership experience in an acute and community provider. Experience of delivering transformative and cultural change. Awareness of improvement methodologies.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse with current unblemished registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council. Masters level qualification or equivalent experience. Evidence of ongoing continual professional development.

Desirable

Registered Midwife. Postgraduate management qualification
