Position Overview

The County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is on the lookout for a remarkable Chief Nursing Officer who possesses the enthusiasm and dedication to create a sustainable and impactful change in providing safe, compassionate, and integrated care to our community and those we serve.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Nursing Officer plays a pivotal role in instilling clinical leadership throughout the organization, fostering a culture centered on patient safety, continuous learning, enhancement, and innovation. As a vital member of the Trust Board and executive team, you will share responsibility for the overall performance and financial viability of the organization, exemplifying our core values and nurturing positive, respectful relationships at all levels, while promoting kindness and inclusivity.

The successful candidate will also serve as the Director of Infection Prevention and Control and will take the lead on safeguarding initiatives. You will oversee the development of the nursing, midwifery, and allied health professional workforce to ensure the effective and safe staffing of services. Additionally, you will uphold nursing leadership and professional standards, taking charge of the revalidation processes for nurses and midwives.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in nursing or midwifery at a senior level, with a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare system and its broader relationships.
  • Strong managerial skills with the ability to lead and manage change in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in building effective networks across health and social care sectors.
  • Ability to establish a clear strategic vision and translate it into successful outcomes for both staff and patients.
  • Commitment to improving patient safety and fostering a culture of learning and development.
  • Registered Nurse with current, unblemished registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Master's level qualification or equivalent experience, along with evidence of ongoing professional development.
