The Role/Profile
As part of the core Finance Transformation team at Ocado Retail, the Financial Accounting, Reporting, Controls & Governance Workstream Lead (Finance Transformation) is a critical role supporting successful delivery of Ocado Retail’s (ORL) Finance change programme and Finance transformation initiatives over the next 12-18 months.

Ocado Retail, a joint venture owned 50/50 by Ocado Group (OG) and Marks and Spencer (M&S), is expected to deconsolidate from OG and consolidate into M&S as of April 2025. The primary purpose of the Finance change and transformation programme is to prepare for the consolidation switch from OG to M&S, ensuring that all financial accounting, reporting and regulatory requirements are fulfilled along with ensuring the wider business is informed and prepared for any resulting operational impacts.

Critical objectives of the main Finance change and transformation programme include:

Alignment of ORL financial calendar to M&S financial year. Faster month end close to facilitate efficient consolidation. Review of M&S accounting policies, chart of accounts, controls, governance, compliance, ESG and other reporting requirements with a gap analysis performed and delivery plan to close any gaps formed and executed. Systems and tools set up to operate efficiently under the new financial year and taking into account any further controls and compliance requirements. Oracle Fusion (ERP) and Oracle EPM were implemented in Summer 2023 and solutions for the change in financial year across both systems will need to be determined and delivered. Inputs, processes and outputs clearly defined and communicated for ongoing Budget, Forecast, five year plan and management reporting requirements. Business impact assessment performed that takes into account all departmental implications In addition to the main Finance change and transformation programme there are further Finance transformation initiatives in scope, which span across cash flow forecasting, management reporting improvements, Oracle Fusion functionality and enhancements and improving the PO > GR > Invoice processes (GRNI) across Ocado Retail.
Key Responsibilities
The Financial Accounting, Reporting, Controls & Governance Workstream Lead (Finance Transformation) will be responsible for leading on and delivering across three workstreams of the overall Finance Transformation Programme: Accounting Policy and Chart of Accounts Changes Controls, Governance, ESG and Compliance Requirements Intercompany and Third Party Relationship Dynamics Full accountability and responsibility for the successful delivery of three critical workstreams within the Finance Transformation Programme. This role will be supported by a Finance Transformation Lead, Senior Manager of Finance Transformation and a dedicated PMO. Requirement for further resources to be determined following mobilisation phase and once EY have provided their findings. Provide regular workstream updates into the Finance Transformation programme governance and verbally present updates to the Steering Committee, Programme Board and Decision Authority. Work in close collaboration with the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting and Controls and the Financial Controller to understand the Ocado Retail financial accounting, controls, governance and statutory reporting landscape to a level sufficient for delivering the outcomes of the three workstreams in scope. Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders across ORL Finance, M&S Finance, Ocado Group Finance, Ocado Group Logistics Finance and EY as appropriate. Build a working relationship with ORL’s audit team (Deloitte). Identify opportunities and make recommendations to make improvements and efficiencies and lead the delivery of opportunities and recommendations that are approved by ORL management.
Key skills Qualified Accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA). Demonstrable and extensive experience within the sphere of Financial accounting, statutory reporting, governance and controls. Willingness to take full accountability and responsibility for the successful delivery of three critical workstreams within the Finance Transformation programme. Understanding of good practice solutions and approaches and the ability to break down the steps required to move from as-is state to to-be state. Pragmatic and agile working style, comfortable working with ambiguity in a dynamic and changeable environment. Ability to simplify complexity both in terms of communication style but also in terms of converting complex problem statements into simple, focused and clear solutions. Proven record of communicating and influencing across a range of audiences internally and externally. Takes a hands-on approach to problem solving. It’s critical that the successful candidate is comfortable, willing and able to get under the hood of the systems and processes currently in place and deliver results independently rather than relying on others to actually perform tasks. Experience of working within a large, fast paced, complex, customer focussed environment. Committed team player who is able to manage vertically and horizontally. Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and influencing skills. Understanding of online retail business and processes desirable. Experience working with Oracle Cloud ERP Financials desirable.
