About therole:

To take jointresponsibility with the registered owner and act as as the personin charge of the daytoday running of the home. To promote a safeand caring environment for service users through high standards ofprofessional practice which are conducive to the physical emotionalsocial intellectual and spiritual needs of the serviceusers.

To ensure the house is financially viablefollowing available best practice and company policy.
Toensure that each service user receives care appropriate to theirindividual need.

To implement the requirementsof the Fundamental Standards of Quality and Safety published inaccordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (RegulatedActivities) and the Care Quality Commission (Registration)Regulations 2009.

Responsibilities:

Manage the day to day running of the home

Create a homely domestic and family environment. To beresponsible for the organisation and implementation of generalhousehold duties directly participating and obtaining the fullparticipation of all staff in the provision of highstandards.

To investigate all complaints takeappropriate action in reporting.

To beresponsible for the receipt of goods delivered checking andreporting any discrepancy.

To act up or stand infor other colleagues when required.

To liaiseand cooperate with overseeing bodies and their inspectors ensuringall statutory notifications are made in a timely manner.

To maintain a high standard of professional conductencouraging and motivating other members of staff by personalexample thereby promoting good staff morale.

Toconsult promptly and report to an Area Manager regarding anyproblems and difficulties which may prevent the smooth running ofthe home and offer up possible solutions.

Toinitiate and develop new ideas and methods regarding the quality ofservice and involving other staff when appropriate.

To participate in an oncall rota providing managerialsupport to all the homes.

To be responsible formanaging supervision and monitoring of all staff’s workand care practices within the home.

To ensurestaff are following all procedures for recording and reportinginformation where necessary. Ensure that all disciplinary andgrievance procedures are carried out in line with companypolicy.

To ensure that the effective inductionsupervision and assessment of staff is carried out and thattraining needs are identified and met in consultation with HR& Training Department.

Service usercare:

To ensure that there is afocus on fun good health and enjoyment providing people with alearning disability opportunities to expand their sphere ofexperience and to develop their lives in creative and imaginativeways.

To ensure all service users within thehome have the opportunities to learn new skills required to becomeas independent as possible within the amenities of the communityand generic services. This may involve assisting service users toarrange social events.

To ensure that allservice users have a Service User Plan in order to meet serviceuser need. To be responsible for implementing sustaining monitoringand regularly evaluating the agreed goals ensuring that the serviceusers their families and friends / advocates are fully involved inthis process.

To participate in serviceusers’ reviews as needed and to ensure that Service UserPlans are evaluated at least once every 12 months. To supportservice users within reviews and service users’ meetingsin order to help them to express their views so that their needsare met.

To ensure that all service users have acompetent named key worker.

To ensure serviceusers are encouraged to exercise individual choice and control overall aspects of their lives.

To organise tripsand holidays for service users and to accompany them whereappropriate.

To develop and maintain links andgood working relations with other professionals and externalagencies in accordance with aims stated within Service UserPlans.

To observe strict confidentiality inrespect of any information regarding service users or staff withinthe home and to challenge and manage any inappropriatehearsay.

To delegate the above responsibilitiesto a competent person if and when appropriate andnecessary.

Encouraging service uses to exerciseindividual choice and control over all aspects of theirlives.

To ensure staff supply written and verbalreports on service users (including observations on serviceusers’ health) and assist in the maintenance of serviceusers’ action plans. To encourage staff to inform you ifthey have any doubts or concerns regarding the well being of yourservice users during observations

To be aware oflocal support services available e.g. psychologists psychiatristsspeech and language therapists community nurses etc and to be awareof the involvement of any of these professionals with any of theservice used within your home. To liaise with external professionalagencies as appropriate and to be aware of how theirrecommendations can be incorporated into the Service UserPlans.

EssentialExperience:

A minimum of 3 yearsmanagerial experience with practical experience of supportingpeople with learning disabilities.

Working inpartnership with other professionals eg health local authority CQCetc.

A qualification equivalent to at least NVQLevel 3 in a relevant area (management or care).

Understanding of the needs of people with a learningdisability and challenging behaviour.

Understanding ordinary life principles and uptodate relevant policydocumentation / White Papers.

Desirable:

Experience of managing an effective team.

Track record of managingbudgets.

Registered Manager’s Awardor Leadership and Management in Care Services(or working towardsthis)

AdditionalRequirements:

Available to workoutside normal hours of work where required.

Flexible enough to work overtime where required.

Available to work in other homes whererequired.

Hold a current drivinglicence.
