Other

• Beresponsible for the management of the Usdin Laboratory mousecolony. This work includes maintaining stocks of essential mousestrains coordinating the import of additional mice into the mousecolony and the export of mice/mouse embryos/mouse sperm to otherfacilities as needed ensuring the cryopreservation and cryorecoveryof appropriate mouse lines develop appropriate genotyping assaysfor new mouse lines supervising the generation of new mouse linesboth by CRISPRmediated geneediting of embryos and appropriatebreeding strategies using preexisting mutant mice overseeingCRISPRmediated geneediting of embryos and appropriate breedingstrategies using preexisting mutant mice overseeing the generationof embryonic stem cell and embryonic fibroblasts derived from theseanimals design and prepare animal study protocols and standardoperation procedures (SOPs)
• Train newpersonnel in appropriate labapproved SOPs including those in placefor working with this animal colony
• Maintainand coordinate scientific equipment and make recommendations wherenecessary for the acquisition of new equipment
• Conduct research on the molecular mechanisms responsiblefor mutation and disease pathology in the Repeat ExpansionDisorders with a focus on the Fragile Xrelated disorder Friedreichataxia and GLC Deficiency.
• Perform researchusing genetic mouse and cellular models.
• Develop reagents assays and methodology that contributeto the goal of moving all the projects in the laboratoryforward.
• Maintain records of the experimentsperformed and the data acquired; update and maintain laboratorynotebooks and databases.
• Perform scientificliterature searches.
• Prepare reports on theexperimental design notes and progress of research programs studiesand trials.
• Prepare experimental resultsincluding images blots expression data etc.
• Coordinate multiple projects concurrently inprogress.
• Collaborate with other researchstaff to ensure continuity of progress.
• Participate in the weekly intergroup lab meetings andpresent research update as appropriate
• Produce presentation slides for meetings
• Prepare manuscripts and submit research papers topeerreviewed scientific journals
• Attendscientific meetings and represent the lab in poster and oralpresentations as opportunity arises
• Contributeto collaborative projects not only with other members within thelab but also with other laboratories as opportunityarises
• Organize daily laboratory notebook onexperiments
• Prepare biweekly updates onongoing experiments and tasks and present progress reports onassigned projects at group meetings
