We are a large department of with around 170 staff, 90 graduate students and a final year undergraduate class of about 100, so things can get pretty busy

We're recruiting a Junior Scientific Support Technician to join our small scientific support team. Our team prides itself on delivering exceptional service to our research and teaching labs. This position would be your chance to kick-start your career in scientific support and contribute to Zoology's success. So, what are you waiting for? Join us now and make a difference

This is an exciting role with varied responsibilities. You will support our aquaria and insect rooms, will help to run our glass washing facility, and provide assistance with the maintenance of scientific equipment, the preparation of media and the running of the tissue culture lab. You will occasionally help the teaching lab with the preparation of practical activities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile individual who will preferably have experience working within a biological lab environment and/or with animals. You have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a time and have basic computing skills. Due to the nature of the work you should have a good level of physical fitness.

The department takes a proactive approach to personal and team development and we will provide training where necessary for this role. The successful applicant will have access to a broad range of staff benefits and personal development opportunities including discounts at a wide range of local and national businesses and educational opportunities available exclusively to University of Cambridge employees.

You will be required to work on site and the appointment is offered on a permanent, full-time basis. An essential requirement of the role is to be part of the additional cover team at weekends, Bank Holidays and on occasion, out of hours. The candidate will therefore be required to work outside of normal working hours at certain periods of time.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.

We particularly welcome applications from women and candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our University.

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
