Located in the heart of Cambridge, the Zoology Department is a buzzing and friendly community of researchers, students, and visitors who are passionate about exploring the wonders of the natural world. We are a large department of with around 170 staff, 90 graduate students and a final year undergraduate class of about 100, so things can get pretty busy

We're recruiting a Junior Scientific Support Technician to join our small scientific support team. Our team prides itself on delivering exceptional service to our research and teaching labs. This is an exciting role with varied responsibilities. You will support our aquaria and insect rooms, will help to run our glass washing facility, and provide assistance with the maintenance of scientific equipment, the preparation of media and the running of the tissue culture lab. You will occasionally help the teaching lab with the preparation of practical activities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile individual who will preferably have experience working within a biological lab environment and/or with animals. You have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a time and have basic computing skills. Due to the nature of the work you should have a good level of physical fitness.

The department takes a proactive approach to personal and team development and we will provide training where necessary for this role. You will be required to work on site and the appointment is offered on a permanent, full-time basis. An essential requirement of the role is to be part of the additional cover team at weekends, Bank Holidays and on occasion, out of hours. The candidate will therefore be required to work outside of normal working hours at certain periods of time.
