A rapidly expanding spin-out company is seeking an R&D Technician to join its team in Cambridge.

The business focuses on a natural alternative to plastic, stemming from plant-based protein - a first of its kind in industry.


As an R&D Technician, you will play an important role in supporting the research and development team in resin formulation, transfer from lab to pilot scale manufacture, material research, and characterisation studies.


R&D Technician Responsibilities

  • Primarily supporting the Research and Development team in resin formulation, transfer from lab to pilot scale manufacture, material research, and characterisation studies.
  • Occasionally travelling to support scaleup and conversion trials.
  • Supporting other technical projects within the Research and Development function such as analytical measurements of materials.
  • Working with our product Development Managers to support the development of our packaging products (coatings and flexible film).
  • Supporting the production of customer samples as required.
  • Assisting the Lab Manager to keep our labs to specification, cleanliness, appropriate quality measures and equipment maintenance.

R&D Technician Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a discipline relating to Biology, Chemistry, Chemical
  • Engineering or Material science (or equivalent in skills and experience)
  • Previous experience with biobased materials, films/coatings, resins, or food safety (desired but not essential).
  • Experience of supporting a team and executing experiments with close attention to detail.
  • Has a handson approach and experience with machinery/tools would be desired but not essential.
  • The ability to work efficiently, multitask and be a team player.
  • Good notetaking skills and recording of experimental work.
  • Enthusiasm for our client's mission of addressing plastic pollution, and interest in sustainability.
  • The right fit for a small, scienceled, innovative team and a high level of autonomy, creativity, and independence.
  • An individual with a cando attitude who thrives in a fastpaced environment.
