On behalf of our client, we are looking to recruit an Animal Technician to provide daily animal husbandry, care and welfare within their Laboratory of Molecular Biology. The Ideal candidate will need to support the team, communicate well with researchers and be keen to develop their own skills. This role is for someone who cares for animals but is also research-inclined.

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs in grades 9-4 (A -C) or equivalent.
  • Level 2 or 3 Animal Care qualification or relevant scientific degree.
  • IAT Level 2 or equivalent education is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the 3Rs is advantageous.
  • Experience working as an animal technician in a scientific setting.
  • Practice working in a laboratory environment is essential.
  • Work closely with protocols and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • IT skills such as Word and Excel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in animal welfare, observations and recording keeping.
  • Cleaning and changing cage bases to ensure suitable environments for the animals.
  • Ensure the animals have access to food, water and environmental enrichment.
  • Daily care and maintenance of the research unit.
  • Entering data and maintaining the database in accordance with the Home Office codes of practice and running appropriate reports
  • Liaise closely with scientific staff, whose animals you are responsible for.
  • Ensure that Home Office Compliance is always met in all areas.
