SEMH Teaching Assistant – Levenshulme

Teaching Personnel is currently seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time position starting in October and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance. The pay for this role is between £419.25 and £500 per week.

Role Overview:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students who face challenges related to their social, emotional, and mental health. This position requires a compassionate individual who can provide both academic and emotional support to students, helping them to thrive in a school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support: Work closely with students who have SEMH needs, providing individualized support to help them engage with their learning. You will assist in managing their emotions, building their confidence, and helping them develop positive relationships with peers and staff.

  • Behavioral Assistance: Implement strategies to manage and improve student behavior, ensuring that each student feels safe, respected, and supported. You will work to create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages learning and personal growth.

  • Personal Development: Support students in developing social skills, resilience, and coping strategies. Your role will be crucial in helping them navigate challenges and succeed both academically and personally.

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering lessons that are accessible and engaging for students with SEMH needs. You will help to differentiate instruction and provide additional resources or support where needed.

  • Progress Monitoring: Track and monitor the progress of students, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to individualized education plans (IEPs). Your insights will be important in adapting strategies to meet each student’s unique needs.

  • Pastoral Care: Offer emotional support to students, helping them to express their feelings and develop healthy coping mechanisms. You will be a key point of contact for students requiring additional support.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to ensure a holistic approach to student well-being. You will participate in meetings and contribute to the development of strategies that support the whole school community.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • A compassionate and patient individual, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Understanding of SEMH needs and experience with behavioral management strategies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with both students and staff.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
  • An empathetic approach, with the resilience to handle challenging situations and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
