Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and qualified counsellor to be involved in a variety of the aspects of delivery and development of a bereavement service.
The Bereavement Service at St Lukes offers a range of services to support the bereaved whose relatives or friends received palliative care from St Lukes. Much of this support is provided by trained volunteers.
You will maintain your own counselling caseload and, equally importantly, have a significant and substantial involvement in the supervision and training of bereavement volunteers. You will also maintain a telephone contact caseload of bereaved relatives, engage within bereavement education groups and support the day to day running of the Bereavement Service as required. Flexibility is essential as some of out of hours work will be required on occasions.
You will be qualified as a counsellor to Diploma level, have post-qualification counselling experience, and be accredited or working towards accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, or equivalent. You will have experience and/or an interest in working with the bereaved, and an understanding of bereavement processes. An interest in group work, as well as one-to-one support, would be an advantage.

Volunteer Engagement: Supervise and train bereavement volunteers, offering guidance and support through meetings and communications. Service Development: Assist in planning and improving bereavement projects and services. Administration: Perform routine tasks, maintain accurate records, and represent the service in hospice meetings. Education: Conduct bereavement education sessions for colleagues and peers.

Overall Purpose of the Role
To work within the Bereavement Service,providing counselling and support to bereaved families, friends, and childrenalong with supporting volunteers, and contributing to the development of the service.
Key Responsibilities1.Clinical
Maintain a counselling caseload, and inrelation to this caseload, undertake recording and administrative tasks asrequired, and attend, and use appropriately, monthly individual counsellingsupervision.
Undertake assessments for counsellingand be involved with allocating clients to volunteer counsellors.
Make telephone contact with bereavedrelatives who may need early support.
Establish and, where necessary,maintain a telephone contact caseload, negotiating further bereavementsupport from the Service, where appropriate.
Contribute to the delivery of othersupport elements of the Bereavement Services, as required, for example, patientelectronic record data input and maintenance.
Ensure all counselling practicecomplies with the British Association for Counselling and PsychotherapyFramework for Ethical Practice, or equivalent.
Contribute to the development anddelivery of structured group sessions on bereavement for patients families,carers, friends and children.
2.Volunteer Support
Contribute to the support ofbereavement volunteers by facilitating volunteer supervision meetings.
Contribute to the initial training ofnew bereavement volunteers, and to the ongoing training of existing volunteers.
Contribute to other methods ofvolunteer support via the telephone, e-mail etc
3.Service development
Contribute to the planning,implementing and development of new and existing bereavement projects andsupport services, working to maintain and improve the standard of bereavementsupport offered within the hospice.
4.Administrative
Undertake regular routine tasks in theBereavement Service, in the absence of the Bereavement Services Co-ordinator liaising / co-ordinating volunteer services, providing information for thebereaved, allocation of cases etc.
Undertake required record keeping inrelation to own caseload including the use of the computerised Infoflexsystem.
Participate as a departmentrepresentative at hospice meetings.
Be involved in the evaluation of thebereavement service
Undertake general administrative dutiesrelating to the bereavement service, as required.
5. Education
Provide educational sessions onbereavement for colleagues and peers
