About the role

Reporting to the Technical Test Lead, and working closely with Development, Design and Project teams, the Technical Test Manager will prepare test artefacts in line with test strategy, agreed design, and requirements, ensure systems are tested to the approach and schedule agreed with stakeholders and the wider engineering strands to meet project timescales, and be responsible for planning and recording test activities and results.

You will also manage Test Engineers assigned to a particular testing phase, be skilled in all aspects of test management, including defining quality and test strategies and approaches throughout the delivery lifecycle, and possess recent experience working within multi-vendor agile and waterfall environments.

Key accountabilities and dimensions include:

Being accountable for the management, planning, design, and execution of all test activities, including system, integration, and user acceptance testing Being accountable for risk-based test planning, including managing and mitigating any project escalations, risks, and issues Being responsible for developing and confirming test scope, and priority associated to each area of the scope Being responsible for leading technical review and development of test artefacts to ensure comprehensive test coverage Being responsible for ensuring specification and timely delivery of any test artefacts required for testing and liaising with plants and mail centres for any live test artefact volumes required for testing Being responsible for the timely analysis, reporting, and recording of test results and data, and informing stakeholders of test gate status and progression to enable informed decision-making solutions Managing Test Engineers, both line and task management for assigned individuals Acting as a mentor and guiding test team members Advisory responsibility for project expenditure for test activities and materials Being responsible for the development of test cases to support system deployment contract test approach Being responsible for the delivering the on-site testing of new and significant upgrades to sortation systems, including typical contracts up to circa. £10 million Ability to engage and communicate effectively with internal and external key stakeholders, which include Original Equipment Manufacturers & Suppliers, RM Project Management Teams, Operational Design, Group Technology, and Engineering team strands

About You

To truly excel in this role, you will possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:

Experience of Agile and Waterfall testing methodologies. Strong experience of risk-based test planning, including managing and mitigating any project escalations, risks, and issues. Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to effectively communicate and translate technical engineering knowledge to a wide range of audiences.  Good knowledge of automated sortation processes, equipment, and machinery. Good knowledge of supplier testing methodologies. Good knowledge of automation data interface specifications and testing methodologies and experience working closely with Group Technology teams. Extensive experience of delivering test strategies through applied test cases, working closely and managing external suppliers against a contract. Experience of using test validation and defect management processes and tools and applications. Able to conduct detailed data analysis, apply systematic problem-solving techniques, and effectively prioritise available resources in a programme testing environment. Self-motivated individual, with capability and experience of leading and managing a small team of professionally qualified test engineers. Good planning skills. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work within a matrix organisation.

Desirably:

Experience and knowledge of test-driven development. Knowledge of letter and parcel address reading technologies and applied supplier testing methodologies. Experience of test tools and tooling, including JIRA, Zephyr, Confluence, Azure DevOps. A recognised qualification in an Engineering, Technical or Scientific Discipline at Level 6, such as BSc (Hons), LV6 NVQ etc. A recognised accreditation from an Institution or Professional Counselling Body, at Incorporated or Chartered Level. A recognised qualification in Health & Safety Management, such as IOSH. A recognised qualification in Test Specific Discipline, such as ISTQB Certified Tester – Foundation Level.
