Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Technical Test Lead, the Technical Test Manager will collaborate closely with Development, Design, and Project teams. This role involves preparing testing documentation in accordance with the established testing strategy, ensuring that systems are evaluated according to the agreed approach and timeline, and managing test activities and outcomes.

Responsibilities include overseeing Test Engineers assigned to specific testing phases, demonstrating expertise in all facets of test management, and possessing recent experience in both agile and waterfall methodologies across multi-vendor environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, plan, design, and execute all testing activities, including system, integration, and user acceptance testing.
  • Conduct risk-based test planning, managing and mitigating project escalations, risks, and issues.
  • Develop and confirm the scope of testing and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Lead technical reviews and the development of testing documentation to ensure comprehensive coverage.
  • Ensure timely delivery of necessary testing documentation and coordinate with relevant departments for live testing requirements.
  • Analyze, report, and document test results, keeping stakeholders informed of testing progress and gate status.
  • Manage Test Engineers through both line and task management.
  • Mentor and guide team members in testing practices.
  • Provide advisory support for project expenditures related to testing activities.
  • Develop test cases to support system deployment and contract testing approaches.
  • Oversee on-site testing for significant upgrades to sorting systems.
  • Engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including Original Equipment Manufacturers and project management teams.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, candidates should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in Agile and Waterfall testing methodologies.
  • Strong background in risk-based test planning and issue management.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with automated sorting processes and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of supplier testing methodologies and automation data interface specifications.
  • Extensive experience in delivering test strategies through practical test cases.
  • Proficient in test validation and defect management processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and systematic problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with experience in leading and managing a team of qualified test engineers.
  • Effective planning and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with test-driven development.
  • Knowledge of address reading technologies and supplier testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with testing tools such as JIRA, Zephyr, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.
  • Relevant qualifications in Engineering, Technical, or Scientific disciplines.
  • Accreditation from a recognized institution at an Incorporated or Chartered Level.
  • Health & Safety Management qualifications.
  • Test-specific qualifications, such as ISTQB Certified Tester – Foundation Level.
