SEN Learning Support Assistant 

 

The Role:

As a learning support assistant you will be required to support pupils with additional needs to promote their learning and development in a school for pupils with generic learning difficulties that provides high quality special education for boys and girls aged 2-19. As a learning support assistant, your role is to provide general classroom support whilst delivering high quality interventions be it in small groups or 1:1 basis. You will need to be able to deal in high pressured situations in a calm and professional manner whilst nurturing each pupils needs. Qualifications GCSE or A-Level qualifications or equivalent are required, qualifications relevant to the job are desirable but not required.

The school:

This specialist school is based in Preston. All children have an EHC Plan which is an individualised timetable catered to the child's needs. The children have additional needs that require further support both in their learning and overall development. Whilst they do require extra support the school does try to promote its pupils to become independent learners, in an environment in which all pupil’s efforts and achievements can be celebrated. The school put communication and positive relationships high on their list of priorities and promote close working relationships with their children’s families.

Key Duties:

  • Helping children learn through fun and educational activities.
  • Managing a daily schedule that includes activities, toilet breaks, lunch, and rest time.
  • To follow the principles of safeguarding to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
  • Ensure that each child’s cognitive, social, and emotional needs are met.
  • To ensure the education environment, is a safe place for children, that equipment is safe, high standards of hygiene are always adhered to. 
  • To foster children’s growth, self-esteem, and independence.
  • To plan and deliver focused learning opportunities for individual children and to carry out focused tasks from individual SEND action plans.
  • To work with the key workers, to discuss each child’s individual needs.

Key Information:

  • Full-time hours Monday – Friday.
  • Competitive hourly rate of pay of £12.90+ based on experience and additional duties. 
  • PAYE Contract.
  • Start date ASAP.
  • No specific qualifications or school experience required but it is desirable.
  • Care worker background desirable.
