London, United Kingdom Barts Health NHS Trust Full time

Job overview

The Mile End Early Diagnostic Centre (MEEDC) is a brand new service for North East London (NEL), which opened in March 2021, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust, to support early diagnosis of cancer for the local population, and the first of its kind nationally.

The MEEDC will operate as a system resource for the three main providers within NEL, covering the 7 CCGs, providing additional capacity in hours, consisting of two endoscopy rooms, two ultrasound rooms and a decontamination unit. This capacity will be used primarily for cancer surveillance; however any remaining capacity will be used to support urgent referrals.

The key aim for the MEEDC is to provide person-centred care, reducing variation across NEL and ensuring a high-quality diagnostic service for the local population. An opportunity has arisen within this brand new service at Mile End Hospital, for decontamination/nursing assistants to join this new Endoscopy team to run the service.

You should have excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of a large team.

You should be flexible and approachable with a positive attitude, as this is the ethos of the unit. You will be working in the decontamination area, working alongside colleagues delivering endoscopy procedures, and then also supporting the work in the recovery area, as well as working within a cross-site trust, when service provision is needed.

Main duties of the job

Prepare, maintain and clean endoscopic equipment and to work in the decontamination areas at the Mile End Early Diagnostic Centre. This includes but is not limited to, the
following:
 Assist the registered nurse to provide nursing care for endoscopy patients.
 Demonstrate the department / directorate philosophy of care.
 Respect patient confidentiality.
 Work under the supervision of the registered nurse with continuing responsibility for the department.
 Work as part of the endoscopy Team.
 To work as part of the decontamination team on a rotational basis, working on the clean and dirty side of the unit.
