Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Band 2 Endoscopy Sterilization Specialist to become a vital part of our dedicated team within the Cancer and Surgery Services at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work across various departments, including Endoscopy and Urology, ensuring the highest standards of decontamination and sterilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, dismantle, clean, disinfect, and distribute medical instruments, ensuring quality control at every stage.
  • Operate advanced Endoscope Washer Disinfectors (EWD), Drying Cabinets, and other specialized equipment.
  • Manage raw material inventory, ensuring proper stock rotation and preventing the use of expired items.
  • Assist in regular stock assessments to maintain essential inventory levels.
  • Adhere to departmental protocols and Health & Safety regulations, promptly reporting any issues to a Supervisor or Manager.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, free from hazards.
  • Complete all documentation accurately and legibly.
  • Utilize departmental computer systems for data entry and tracking purposes.
  • Provide exceptional service to all customers, maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Contribute to the positive image and reputation of the Endoscopy and Urology Departments.
  • Engage in training, development, and performance review activities.
  • Comply with the Quality Management System accredited to 9001:2000.
  • Follow HTM 0106 and JAG guidelines for the decontamination of flexible endoscopes.
  • Adapt to changes in service demands and contribute to service development.
  • Promote a safe working environment.
  • Be flexible to work at various Trust or customer locations as required.
  • Perform any additional duties commensurate with the role.

Candidate Profile

Essential Experience

  • Knowledge of endoscope decontamination processes.
  • Experience in a Sterile Services Department or Endoscopy Decontamination setting.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with tracking and traceability systems.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written procedures.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
  • Strong record-keeping abilities.

Desirable Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
