Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The Cavendish Laboratory's Nanofabrication Facility is moving to a new state-of-the-art cleanroom complex within the Ray Dolby Centre, the Department of Physics' flagship building on the University of Cambridge's West Cambridge Site.

The Nanofabrication Facility includes 1500m2 of clean labs ranging from ISO 3 - ISO 7, supporting research and development across a range of materials systems and technologies including both organic and inorganic semiconductor materials.

Applications are invited for a technical Operational Lead, primarily responsibility for the ISO 5 - ISO 7 Inorganic Cleanroom areas.

As part of the growing Nanofabrication Facility team, the successful candidate will deliver operational leadership for the inorganic Cleanrooms, providing day-to-day support, training and guidance for users and leading the facility's technical teams in the operation and maintenance of the specialist fabrication tools and associated infrastructure. Although primarily focused on the Inorganic fabrication cleanrooms, the roleholder will be expected to provide reciprocal support for their counterpart based in the organic device fabrication cleanrooms.

The successful candidate should have proven experience and knowledge in the operational management of a multi-user cleanroom environment for the fabrication of inorganic semiconductor devices, as well as detailed knowledge of the tools, process steps and health and safety considerations involved in such activities. Commonly used materials include silicon, GaAs, GaN, InP, diamond, glass and 2D materials including graphene.

The roleholder will be responsible for health and safety and user training within the inorganic cleanroom, and should have experience of training new users in such an environment.

The roleholder will also be responsible for the repair and maintenance of the cleanroom equipment. The successful candidate will have knowledge and practical experience of repairing standard cleanroom tools. They should be able to undertake and guide others in a range of activities including basic maintenance, diagnosis of faults, repairs and full refurbishment as necessary. They will be expected to work with the technical team (ranging from apprentices to experienced technicians), to ensure operational readiness of the facility.

The successful applicant will also act as the first primary contact for all users of the inorganic cleanroom. The roleholder must therefore possess excellent communication and organisational skills to ensure timely replies to potential users and that any queries or enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check and an occupational health check.

Informal enquiries are welcomed and should be addressed to Dr Dave Ellis, .
