Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Scientist to help lead the Radiation Protection Group in Medical Physics.

Radiation Protection Group sits within the growing Medical Physics Department at Southampton General. Our role is to support the Trust and clients in ionising and non-ionising radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics. The group currently supports a large teaching hospital, two district general hospitals, a large community hospital and various smaller establishments including vets and dentists across Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and the Channel Islands. We work closely with Trust departments using X-ray, radioactive materials, lasers, and UV systems. We are working closely with our MES partner to install a wide range of new X-ray equipment across UHS sites.

You will work closely with the Head of Radiation Protection to manage the activity of the group along side your own area of responsibility as a radiation expert adviser to the trust (RPA, RWA, MPE, LPA etc). You will line manage part of the team and deputise for the Head of Radiation Protection in their absence. You will work with colleagues across the Trust, providing specialist expertise, training and auditing.

What experience/skills are needed: You must be an HCPC registered clinical scientist You must be hold a certificate to act as one of a Radiation Protection Adviser, Laser Protection Adviser, Medical Physics Expert, Radioactive Waste Adviser, You must have experience of operating X-ray, and non-ionising equipment and of auditing their use. You should have strong interpersonal skills, be a logical thinker You should be confident using specialist radiation protection software.
