Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 Physiotherapist to work within the newly established Emergency and Medical Therapy Team at the RUH to provide exciting clinical and leadership experience in the acute setting.

The post will focus on the Specialty Medical ward's leading on acute assessment, rehabilitation, respiratory interventions and complex discharge planning. There will also be opportunity to work in the Emergency Department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) for the rapid assessment and discharge of a diverse spectrum of patients including medical, respiratory, frailty and orthopedic conditions, with over 60% of our patients going home the same day.

This post will support the larger team across all area's allowing exposure to a wide variety of experiences in multiple acute, respiratory and long term conditions within a supportive team environment.

This role offers the candidate the opportunity to develop their respiratory skills as well as their acute rehabilitation skills and complex discharge planning.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will providePhysiotherapy assessments and interventions to support respiratory care and to facilitate functional independence in relation to discharge to patients in the Specialty Medical wards as well as Emergency Department and Medical Assessment Unit.

They will also provide daily clinical management of Physiotherapy staff working with the team as well as keeping close links with the Occupational Therapist in the integrated Emergency and Medical therapy team. The post holder will have clinical autonomy and be responsible for the management of their own caseload, to have an awareness of the caseload demands within the whole Emergency and Medical therapy team and to allocate clinical capacity according to service demands. This enables them to co-ordinate the daily service delivery across the hospital in the most effective way.

The post holder contributes to medical therapy service development and supports the Band 7s with implementation of change.

The specialty medical ward service work 08:00-16:00 across weekdays and weekends.

The Emergency and SDEC service is a 7 day service working shifts patterns Monday to Friday and at weekends.

The successful candidate's would be required to cover weekends as a part of this service or the on-call service.
