Acute Care Physiotherapist for Emergency Services

Bath, Bath and North East Somerset, United Kingdom Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our newly formed Emergency and Medical Therapy Team at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable clinical and leadership experience in a dynamic acute care environment.

The primary focus of this position will be on the Specialty Medical ward, where you will lead acute evaluations, rehabilitation efforts, respiratory care, and intricate discharge planning. Additionally, there will be opportunities to engage with the Emergency Department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) to facilitate the swift assessment and discharge of a diverse range of patients, including those with medical, respiratory, frailty, and orthopedic conditions. Notably, over 60% of our patients are discharged home on the same day.

This role is designed to support the broader team across various areas, providing exposure to a wide array of experiences in multiple acute, respiratory, and long-term conditions within a collaborative team setting.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Physiotherapy assessments and interventions aimed at enhancing respiratory care and promoting functional independence for patients in the Specialty Medical wards, as well as the Emergency Department and Medical Assessment Unit.

You will also oversee the daily clinical management of Physiotherapy staff within the team, maintaining close collaboration with Occupational Therapists in the integrated Emergency and Medical Therapy Team. The role entails clinical autonomy, allowing you to manage your own caseload while being mindful of the overall demands within the Emergency and Medical Therapy Team, ensuring effective allocation of clinical resources based on service needs. This approach enables the coordination of daily service delivery across the hospital in the most efficient manner.

Furthermore, you will contribute to the development of the medical therapy service and assist Band 7 colleagues in implementing necessary changes.

Work Schedule

The Specialty Medical ward operates from 08:00 to 16:00 on weekdays and weekends. The Emergency and SDEC services function seven days a week, with shift patterns in place for both weekdays and weekends. Weekend coverage may be required as part of this service or the on-call duty.
