Job overview

To gain a Medical Electronics qualification following a four year apprenticeship programme. The successful candidate will gain experience and competence in: The scheduled servicing, repair and calibration of a diverse range of medical and life support equipment in a hospital and community environment. 

To be in a position to be able to be offered a full time substantive position. The successful applicant will need to have completed their qualification in full and demonstrate competence in this field.

2024-25 rate payable from 1st April 2024:

 £6.40/hour (£12,480 approx. p.a. - 37.5hrs/wk.) 

Under 19 yrs. OR Apprentice any age in Year 1 of an apprenticeship.

Year 2 increase dependent on age:

Under 18 = £6.40/hr (£12,480 p.a. approx. - 37.5hrs/wk.)

18 20 yrs. = £8.60/hr (£16,770 p.a. approx. - 37.5hrs/wk.)

21 + yrs. = £11.44/hr (£22,308 p.a. approx. - 37.5hrs/wk.

Main duties of the job

Diagnose, fault find, and repair faults on a range of plant, equipment and services.

Learn how to carry out planned preventative maintenance to statutory requirements.

Learn how to carry out statutory inspections and testing of plant, equipment and services to ensure their safe operation and meet current standards.

Use all relevant tools and equipment as necessary.

Learn how to plan and evaluate and order materials for the necessary job requisitions.

Communicate with others on aspects of their work, including any problems encountered.

Make arrangements to attend wards / departments for access or availability of room / area / equipment to carry out work as requested.

Participate in systems of work and complete all necessary paperwork to statutory and Trust requirements.

Follow drawings, specifications under the necessary guidance of others follow Trust and statutory requirements regarding health and safety at work.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Carry out, under supervision, the following aspects, in order to meet training requirements framework:

Diagnose and repair faults on equipment, services and medical Manufacture, assemble, erect, install and test new work including minor improvements ensuring compliance with Trust and Apprentice safety standards and Carry out planned preventative maintenance to statutory Carry out statutory inspections and testing of equipment and services to ensure their safe operation and meet current Use all relevant tools and equipment as Plan and evaluate and order materials for the necessary job Inform others on aspects of their Make arrangements to attend wards / departments for access or availability of room / area / equipment to carry out work as Participate in systems of work and complete all necessary paperwork to Statutory and Trust Follow drawings, specifications under the necessary guidance of Follow Trust and statutory requirements regarding health and safety at

Attend college, training centres and other training organisations as necessary to meet requirements of the Apprenticeship Standard and WWL FT Trust

Complete training logbooks and matrix following the completion of work carried out in the employer location(s)

Submit all necessary paperwork to WWL FT Trust in accordance with our requirements.

Ensure all parties involved with training are kept up to date with progress and all actions and targets are achieved within timescale.

The precise details of any of the apprenticeship are dependent on a number of factors that may be subject to change at various stages of the training.

Take responsibility for personal development and education and contribute to the development of a Personal Development Plan.

Essential criteria

GCSE’s (Maths and English minimum grade C/4. Willingness to work towards the Level 3 Apprentice Qualification

Skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills Willing to undertake any necessary training Good team player Ability to work on own initiative Attend college as requested Be able to work at height and confined spaces

Desirable criteria

Basic skills in the use of IT equipment and packages

Knowledge

An aptitude and interest in the practical and theoretical study of engineering

Have an understanding of relevant health and safety issues

Flexible to be able to cope with different work environments. Ability to work under pressure / meet tight deadlines whilst delivering high quality work Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
