We have an opportunity for a Band 2 Medical Electronics Assistant to join the Department at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.


Responsibilities include:

  • Take instructions from the Team Leader and/or Engineering Technicians to collect, deliver, receive, clean and issue replacement consumables relating to medical equipment to and from the medical electronics department. When required carry out first line repairs and advise users how to set up and use a limited range of equipment to ensure effective deployment of appropriate equipment Trust wide.
  • Carry out equipment maintenance, e.g. cleansing, changing batteries, filters etc to ensure all medical devices meet optimum standards using the appropriate tools and test equipment provided.
  • Enter data into the computer database to record and track medical device maintenance and use; print out information as required.
  • Visit clinical areas on a daily basis to collect and deliver equipment and to promote good equipment management.
  • Work closely with Medical Electronics Engineering Technicians to ensure all repairs and maintenance for Loan Store devices and other equipment are carried out.
  • Ensure all devices are stored safely and appropriately along with the correct accessories and ensure the department is clean, tidy and well maintained and left in a secure condition at the end of the shift.
  • Provide assistance to wards and departments to enable them to manage equipment safely and effectively, particularly in respect of storage arrangements.
  • There will be frequent periods of moderate effort for short periods lifting and carrying cumbersome equipment.
  • The post holder will occasionally be exposed to some unpleasant situations including sick, injured or distressed patients, and the sight of blood and body fluids.
  • There will be a requirement to handle equipment (using safe working practises) that may have been infected with biological agents such as MRSA.
  • There may be a requirement to urgently provide equipment for staff working in very stressful situations.
  • Answer Medical electronics department telephone and bleep take messages and deal with
- specific queries.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff in all clinical departments to
- ascertain their equipment needs.

  • Ensure equipment delivered to ward areas meets minimum standards of cleanliness.
  • Work with all appropriate Trust policies to help prevent the spread of infection.
  • Maintain high standards relating too personal and hand hygiene.
