Job Title: Passenger Assistant

We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Passenger Assistant to join our team at Wigan Council. As a Passenger Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and comfortable transportation of children and young people with special educational needs, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities to schools within and outside the borough.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist passengers on and off the vehicle at the start and end of their journey, as required.
  • Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of passengers for the duration of their journey.
  • Work with and engage with passengers with a range of disabilities and complex needs.
  • Deal with challenging behaviors and promote a calm and relaxed environment for all passengers.
  • Update management with successful intervention techniques which can be captured electronically and used as best practice throughout the PA cohort.
  • Complete detailed, accurate, and timely incident reports as required.
  • Build effective relationships with passengers and their families, carers, and schools to ensure an outstanding, reliable service.

Requirements:

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Passenger Assistant or as a Family Support Worker working with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).
  • Must be physically fit and healthy, as you will have to assist passengers on and off the bus.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff, and managers.
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service.
