We are seeking to appoint one part time (0.6FTE) Mental Health Advisor to join our multi-disciplinary, BACP accredited, Counselling and Mental Health Service. We are a friendly team of professional Counsellors and Mental Health Advisors providing individual and group-based support for students experiencing a range of mental health difficulties.

As a Mental Health Advisor, you will be responsible for providing specialist mental health support to our diverse student community on a spectrum of mental health and wellbeing issues. You will manage a varied caseload, working with students in multiple ways, from providing comprehensive mental health assessments and offering a response to crisis cases, to tailoring study support for individuals who need reasonable adjustments. You will offer training to students and staff, have an ability to handle multiple competing priorities in your daily work and excellent communication skills.

About you: 

You will have a post graduate professional qualification and professional registration in the field of mental health: mental health nursing, clinical psychology, social work, counselling / psychotherapy.  Substantial post-qualification experience in a relevant setting. Relevant experience of working in a Higher Education setting would be advantageous but we also welcome applications from candidates who have worked in other public or private sector environments and are able to transfer their practitioner skills and knowledge to supporting our students. Excellent relational and communication skills – able to develop effective working relationships with colleagues internal and external.  The ability to handle multiple competing priorities in daily work plus strong administration and IT skills.  Experience at handling a complex caseload and able to respond calmly and effectively to challenging and stressful situations.  Experience and interest in delivering training, workshops and presentations. This is a 3 day per week, campus–based role to take place during Service opening hours 8.30 - 4.30. Working days to be discussed but must include Monday or Friday or both. Occasional weekend cover required for events such as Open Days.
