This postssits at cluster level and you will be able to provide specialist clinicalsupervision and support to members of the multi disciplinary teams across Mid and North Devon. You will be responsiblefor delivering dedicated postural management assessment clinics, providingevidence based treatment programmes and prescribing 24hour postural managementequipment as required. You will also be required to work closely with theProfessional Lead Physiotherapist, taking a leading role in service developmentprojects to further the learning disability service.

Weprovide a client focused community based service to adults with a learningdisability and complex health needs that cannot be met by mainstream services. Aswell as working within the North and Mid cluster, you will be a part of theDevon wide specialist physiotherapy team. We are a Monday to Friday 9-5 servicewith no on call demand. This is a part-time vacancy ( hours) and flexibleworking will be considered. Hybrid working is also possible. Your work base will predominantly be Phoenix Lane, Tiverton with themajority of your clinical work in Mid Devon.

Main duties of the job

Weare looking for someone who is an excellentcommunicator with extensive experience of working with people with learningdisabilities, additionalcommunication needs and complex health needs.They will be highly competent ina wide range of clinical and supervisory skills as outlined in the JobDescription, demonstrate an ability to work alone and as part of amultidisciplinary team and be able to be mobile across a large rural area.

Youwill have responsibility for a caseload and be required to work confidentlywith adults with complex postural and physical needs, completing thoroughassessments and providing evidence based treatment programmes as well astraining family and carers in 24 hour postural management. You will utilise your excellent teaching and supervisory skills toensure all members of the teams receive professional support and supervisionensuring a high quality, evidence based physiotherapy service across North andMid Devon.

Communicationand Working Relationship Skills

To work asclinical specialist in Learning Disability Physiotherapy with theresponsibility for a specialist caseload and to provide advance clinicalsupervision for the Physiotherapy team.

To deputisefor the Lead Physiotherapist for Learning Disabilities,taking the lead on delegated tasks and providing relevant feedback and reportsas required to ensure the progress and development of the service.

To communicate effectively when impartingcomprehensive information relating to diagnosis, prognosis, physical andfunctional recovery and lifestyle adjustments to patients and theirrelatives/carers.

To spontaneously use verbal andnon-verbal communication tools to discuss complex information about underlyinginfluences, diagnosis, prognosis, progression of rehabilitation and treatmentprogrammes with patient or carer.

To confidently communicate with patientswho may have difficulties relating to complex emotional, psychological as wellas physical conditions relating to the presenting complaint. This client groupincludes those who have difficulties in understanding or communicating, clientsmay have severe sensory impairment or challenging behaviour.

Demonstrate advanced skills in motivating,negotiating, counselling and training and the ability to adjust communicationas required in the situation.

To take a leadrole in the advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of learning disabled patientswith diverse presentations and complex physical, psychological and behaviouralconditions, to provide a diagnosis and prognosis to formulate and deliver a specialised physiotherapy treatment programme. Planningand Organisational Skills

To co-ordinate core group and servicereview meetings to integrate physiotherapy management in to the overallmanagement plan. Be responsible for the clinical supervisionand co-ordination of less experienced physiotherapists, students and assistants.

To confidently delegate and work closelywith physiotherapists and assistant physiotherapists to ensure the professionaland efficient provision of the Physiotherapy service.

Be responsible for organising loan andtrial of equipment such as standing frames, walking aids, postural supportsystems and orthotics, ordering definitive equipment as required.

Responsibilityfor Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy

To beresponsible for safe and competent assessment, provision and use ofphysiotherapy equipment, wheelchairs, standing frames, walking aids, orthotics,gym equipment and postural management equipment by patients ensuring that lessexperienced physiotherapy staff and assistants attain competency prior to use.

Assess patient and parent/carers understanding oftreatment proposals, gain valid formal consent and jointly agreed goals. Consentmay be gained from the client using total communication skills and from theparents, carers or medical panel where a client has severe barriers tounderstanding. To work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacityto consent to treatment.

Advanced communication skills are needed to impartand understand communication, such as signing, symbols, gesture and electroniccommunication aids.

Qualifications

Essential

Diploma/degree in physiotherapy. State registration current HPC certificate Evidence of extensive Continuous Professional Development maintained in a portfolio. Training/experience in management of conditions relating to the specialty at post grad diploma or equivalent, including recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field in wheelchair prescription, postural management or equivalent specialist training. Extensive postgraduate experience some of which were spent at a senior level within a paediatric, learning disability or neurology setting. Good experience working for the NHS
