About You?

We are now looking for an exceptional Unit Manager to join our leadership team.

You will be an experienced critical care nurse with operational management/bed management and be able to make decisions as well as navigate problems when they arise.

You will have strong interpersonal skills and be able to develop sound professional relationships across the whole MDT.

You will have a passion to drive through change and confident in leading new quality improvement initiatives across the unit.

As the Unit manager you will effectively manage and lead the team, ensuring the team are supported, developed and nurtured allowing the unit to 'grow its own'.

Main duties of the job

Lead on the development of the critical care service within the Oxford Critical Care Unit, including that of of the staff and their bespoke educational needs and professional growth requirements. Involvement in the management of patient flow for this area. Supporting the staff to deliver compassionate, excellent quality care from admission to onward discharge.

Person Specification

Essential

Essential

Registered Nurse (part 1, 8, 12, 15 of register, depending on area of practice). Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care Nursing at Level 7 or equivalent. Masters level study. Evidence to support a programme of proactive personal professional development. Completion of a leadership and management development programme, or completion of CC3N STEP 4 competencies. Postgraduate qualification in mentoring/practice assessor and supervisor. Evidence of Critical Care Operational and bed management. Decision-making and problem-solving skills. Initiating and maintaining effective interpersonal and interprofessional relationships with juniors, peers and seniors. Maintaining an excellent standard of patient care. Effectively managing a team. Advanced critical care clinical practice. Team leadership skills, adopting a flexible leadership style depending on the situation. Organisational and management skills. Teaching skills. Ability to facilitate professional growth in nursing colleagues. Ability to undertake and facilitate change management/quality improvement/project work. Evidence of involvement with audit and quality assurance. Evidence of leadership qualities. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ambassador for the department. Awareness of importance of budget. Insight into Clinical Governance and Risk Management. Commitment to developing evidence-based practice.
